Re: Weekly Poll #1

I have a Checkers nearby, perhaps I'll give them a shot sometime this week. While on the subject of burger joints, there's a local place here that sells monster-sized burgers that everyone raves about. Their hours are a bit odd - 10:00AM-02:00PM -- not sure why they A) are only open for four hours and B) why those hours specifically, other than the obvious lunch rush which starts at around 11:00AM, but I suppose it's precisely because so many people pack into the restaurant with the line out the door they figure they only need to be open for such a short period of time. Also, has anyone tried the impossible burgers that have been on an upwards trend? I've tried them, and I wouldn't mind if if that was my only option on occasion, but as a person who isn't a vegetarian nor cares to be one, I still prefer real beef.

Amusingly enough, a friend of mine once had a holiday in Australia. She said she wanted to prove that she'd travelled far into the outback, that she'd really left civilisation behind and experienced what an environment untouched by human hands might be like. To illustrate this point, she has a photograph of herself standing in the desert, miles from anywhere next to a sign which reads "600 miles to the nearest McDonalds" .

The fact McDonald's has the most votes really saddens me, but it's cheap and fits everyone's budget, so I can't say their burgers are beneath me.Five Guys is great, but comes at a much higher price than most other places. In fact, it's really about their fries and milkshakes along with the burger that makes it worth a trip every now and then.

Ironically, the last time I went to MCDonalds was in 2012, I just wanted to use their wifi, so just bought a coffee and a browny .I will share a rather humourous fast food related story though, which might illustrate what I said above about fast food being not exactly the cheap option in Britain. Back in 2014, the guide dogs association over here were doing a big awareness campaign to try and get people to sign a petition to be sent to the government to make auditory announcements on busses mandatory, rather than just happening when a given bus company happens to feel like it. The campaign came to nothing with the government doing their usual "well we'll sort of maybe think about perhaps possibly doing something at some point in the unspecified future", though more audio announcements have made it onto busses in the mean time (at least when individual bus drivers haven't turned them off).Anyway, all that aside, this meant my parents, my brother  and I spent a long mourning in Nottingham town centre, button holing random passers buy, me using my best stentorian operatic tenor projection. We actually got a fair few signatures, albeit also ran into several arse holes, my personal favourites were the man who told us he "didn't believe in it", and the woman who first said "I don't have any money", then when I said "We don't need money we just want you to sign", protested she didn't have a pen, whereupon I waved a pen at her and told her I had one, and she ran away, apparently the idea of actually committing to something being quite scary, either that or she had a mortal fear of pens :d.Either way, after a couple of hours and a couple of hundred signatures, we were all pretty frazzzled and just wanted some hot food. There was a specialist street vendor selling german sausages of several varieties. My mum liked the idea, however balked at the idea of paying as much as two pounds for a glorified hotdog, quite aside from what we'd pay for a cup of coffee, "that could be ten pounds for all four of us", she protested. So, after running around several more places, she suggested burger king. The three of us got a burger, some fries and a drink each, and sat down, my mum enthusing over the fact that "Well, at least we saved money", whereupon my dad pointed out the hole lot had cost nearly 18 quid. "but that's nearly five pounds each! as much as you'd pay for a propper meal", mum protested. My brother simply replied "yess, welcome to Burger king!" .

Re: Weekly Poll #1

@DJEPIC, I wonder if five guys haven't made it to north England yet. I do know several American firms like crispy cream have places in London, but not as much elsewhere.Being as Newark is a small town, there isn't much here besides a lot of kebab and chip places, albeit we've found a local kebab place that's pretty awesome. There are more places in Nottingham, EG TGI Fridays, though unfortunately Nottingham being quite a hole, usually only the cheapies survive; there was a fantastic brazillian bbq place that went down a while ago. Plus of course, since we're still in lockdown, no eating out for us, fast or otherwise.

You might want to rethink some of those choices. Wendies and chick fil-A, aren't around in the UK, and I've never even heard of Carrols junior or five guys. Plus over here fast food generally tends to be both crapper quality, and more expensive . Likewise, I wouldn't say I'm "too fancy for fast food", however, if I want a burger, I usually either get one at a semi good restaurant or gastro pub (I rather like TGI Fridays for example), or I just buy some from our fantastic local butcher and stick them on the old George forman.

Weekly Poll #1

I thought it would be fun to do a different poll question every week. Just for some fun. If a week turns out to be too long, or if most people prefer the poll to run for the whole month along with the sticky topic, let me know. Also, I don't have to be the one to create the poll of the week or the topic, in fact it would help greatly if other people helped out. Results of each poll will be given at the start of the next week's poll, votes only last for one week of course.First one so here we go. The poll says it all, which fast food burger is your favorite?
