Re: Weird problem with Jaws and Windows 10
Re: Weird problem with Jaws and Windows 10 Group Policy Editor is indeed only available in pro and enterprise editions of Windows 10, so you won't have access to it. You can do a whole bunch of cool stuff in there, and, as I said, it's a bit friendlier to work with than the registry. Re: Weird problem with Jaws and Windows 10
Re: Weird problem with Jaws and Windows 10 Yeah. Like I said, ask FS tech support about it. They may not even be aware of the issue and might be able to fix it in the next update. Re: Weird problem with Jaws and Windows 10
Re: Weird problem with Jaws and Windows 10 Never mind. I found the right registry key, but changing the first value to 0 (the second was already set as such) had no effect. Not sure what's going on with that--it's most likely user error, as I find the registry a pain and a half to work with personally, so I would still be interested if there are equivalent group policy entries, if possible. That way I can try that before I throw in the towel. Re: Weird problem with Jaws and Windows 10
Re: Weird problem with Jaws and Windows 10 this is happening because JAWS is shit software made by a piece of shit company who don't care about their own best interests anymore. A once good company who has tragically fallen downhill and is OK with setting lower standards and maintaining their mediocrity. Re: Weird problem with Jaws and Windows 10
Re: Weird problem with Jaws and Windows 10 Hmmm, this registry path dead ends for me at System. There's no system key to be found once I've followed the rest of the path. What did you google to come up with this info? The reason I ask is that maybe there's a setting in Group Policy Editor that would do the same thing. I feel more comfortable using that anyway. And, not knowing what even lead you to draw this conclusion about which settings to change, I'm completely lost as to what to search for, or I'd do it myself in a heartbeat. Thanks. Re: Weird problem with Jaws and Windows 10
Re: Weird problem with Jaws and Windows 10 What is your level set to in UAC?I ask, because I recently started playing around with JAWS 18, after hearing that it was a lot more responsive, and besides, I wanted to try out the new Vocalizer Nathan voice, which is getting rave reviews.I had UAC disabled, and I could not, for the life of me, get JAWS to read either my start menu or my settings. So, I began troubleshooting the problem every way I knew how. I updated my graphics and chipset's drivers, I repaired JAWS, I tried uninstalling, then thoroughly removing all traces of the JAWS installation, then reinstalling again. And still, no go. Then, someone suggested that I try turning UAC back on, and hey, what do you know, it actually worked. Even with the level set at 0%, it still reads stuff properly, including the settings app. But I find this an unacceptable workaround; despite all the hemming and hawing about how UAC is the first line of defense against viruses and what not that I tend to hear, there are actually way better ways of protecting your system that are just as easy. I'm not saying that UAC doesn't have a purpose, but for someone like myself who is very familiar with the ins and outs of Windows, I find it much more of a nuisance, and any benefits that it might have can easily be accounted for with third party tools that get the job done a hundred times better. So, if you totally disabled UAC somewhere along the way, try turning it back on and see if that helps at all. I hope that one day FS does something about this. In the meantime, I'm back to using NVDA full time; after all, it doesn't need this non-essential component to function properly. Re: Weird problem with Jaws and Windows 10
Re: Weird problem with Jaws and Windows 10 Hello, The problem exists even on jaws 18, being it an upgrade, or a fresh copy of JAWS 18.So, if you go to settings, you better use touch cursor, or start narrator and do what you have to do with it. It's sad that they ruined the access we had on JAWS 17, where you'd be able to read settings elements as you do with NVDA or Narrator, but now you have to use touch cursor, and I don't really know how to properly work with it. For example, it is difficult to browse a list of elements or combo boxes in settings app on Windows 10.And so, I don't think a repair of JAWS would solve anything. It's really sad that a big company as freedom scientific cannot ensure reasonable access for the system they work on. Re: Weird problem with Jaws and Windows 10
Re: Weird problem with Jaws and Windows 10 Keep in mind that I have limited experience with jaws, but the best option would probably be to repair jaws by launching the installer. I have no idea if your activation will be affected when doing this.
