Computer room Services used to carry it for a time, all be it for like 70 bucks *rough conversion from the UK price of 30 pounds* and there were tons of workaround attempts posted, from what appeared to be drm strippers, to disabling/disconnecting your cd drive, you name it, most that either didn't work, required the cd, or were too complicated or risky. To start with I have the full version and I did buy it for approximately $35 from computer room services and I will not be giving out the full version and as far as I know they are still selling it you just need to call their office and request it from them because they have only like five copies left and they are not selling it online anymore so you need to call. If nothing else, it'll be for your own good considering there's always the possibility of a physical disk becoming unreadable sooner or later. Even if you don't plan on giving it out, which you actually really can't just *give it out* considering the protection, you can't just burn it to another disk either. Starforce looks at every disk sector and if there's a mismatch, it won't run. Normally you're right, it wouldn't be right to break this, but considering this game is nearly out of stock, it won't be long before it will be truly unobtainable. It's already unsupported by Code Factory, and as you said there are only like 5 copies left. That's an old technique that harkens back to the 80s and the Apple 2.Standard discs had sectors with a known format for their headers which contained information like track and sector and some other internally used information such as the sector's checksum. A common trick was to change the values of the lead in and trailer bytes. With those changed, standard copiers could no longer find the sectors.That was one of the easiest copy protection methods to break. Well Orko, whether the game can be obtained through this third party or not, the game is no longer officially supported, and at this point, once the copies are gone, they're gone. The devs have clearly stated that they have no intentions on supporting the games, and also never freed the game from Starforce. Well Orko, whether the game can be obtained through this third party or not, the game is no longer officially supported, and at this point, once the copies are gone, they're gone. The devs have clearly stated that they have no intentions on supporting the games, and also never freed the game from Starforce. Regarding the sectors, you're right, this technique has been used on basically all platforms for games and software alike, Starforce just made their spin on that tactic by force installing rootkits. Now that doesn't mean if a game hasn't been around for years but the dev hasn't said anything, it automatically counts as unsupported. Once you can successfully make a working duplicate, you can reapet the process, but this time save the disc as an image. That way it could be made available through the internet. The problem is that some of the exploits involve disabling or disconnecting your cd drive so Starforce doesn't recognize it, and can be destructive to your system if done wrong. On the other hand cd cloning shouldn't be too hard. I wonder if a .nrg file would work, since that's an exact rom copy, possibly sector-for-sector. Someone with an original disk should try it with Nero Image Burner. What I'm thinking is that if you extract the .nrg or convert it to iso it will stop working, but if you burn an .nrg to disk it just might work. I e, Sony knew it would be a system vulnerability, by forcing covert Rootkit installers to install without authorization when the cd rom was inserted, and once installed, caused your system kernel to watch closely which processes were running, and kill any that were detected as trying to copy the cd rom media. The system kernel was also programmed to hide the fact that Rootkit processes were actually running, so they were running completely behind the scenes, as is the case with all devices these days. Think about it. There are no mp3 players, just general purpose computers programmed to act as such. I e, they are using Rootkits to take a general purpose computer designed to run any program, and programming it to only run the processes appropriate for the device in question. The thing with that is, it's totally understandable for applianc es and small devices to have that. Where it does not belong, is cd's. Rootkitted cd roms couldn't even play on all players because not all of them had a decoder. It got so bad that some artists said to hell with the rootkitted cd's and advised anyone who was having trouble playing their purchased cd's to download their songs on the network that was then known as Napster. So, with that background out of the way, you now know essentially what Starforce does to your system. It's not just a drm system. It's a system to surrender your general purpose computer to. So it's no surprise that attempting to crack it could end up breaking your cd rom drivers. Hmm, could that also be why Starforce games had trouble with plug-n-play external cd drives? IN other words, if you had an android sd card and some partitions were not viewable by your computer with explorer, than dd-ing the card, aka making a .img file, would bypass that and make a byte-for-byte image of the card anyway. That's great, but here's the problem. Starforce is not just encryption, it's rootkitted drm. Even though Nero may make an exact rom copy of the image, it still is probably not suited to create one protected with drm. Which is a shame, as Nero is accessible. But we could probably get someone sighted to read the windows of the disk cloner or help make an nvda addon. I got the link to RedFox wrong in my previous post, it's fixed now.For what it's worth, It does appear that Clone CD just might be accessible enough to use. I just tried it and found that while I couldn't access any of the controls that might be in the program's main dialog, I could access it's functions through the drop down menu. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to have a specific setting for Starforce protected discs, but I think it's still worth an attempt.I believe the program I was thinking of was a program called SoftDisc which allowed you to simulate a physical optical drive using an ISO image file. There used to be a free program, I don't think it was open source, that did the same thing as SoftDisc, but I can't recall what it was called, it was popular though. Maybe that was where I saw it. Or maybe I'm confusing Starforce with SafeDisc or SecureROM.But I agree, all we can do now is hope someone with an original disc will try to clone it with Clone CD or Alcohol though I'm pretty sure that Alcohol isn't accessible. As a standard ISO file, no, because of the Starforce protection.But in a file used by a program like Clone CD or Alcohol 120%, possibly, because those programs were designed to be able to copy protected discs.
