Re: White cane size calculation
Re: White cane size calculation If you have to ask this, you probably aren't being trained by the NFB. This means that anywhere from your sternum to your throat would probably suit you. A shorter cane, relative to your own height, will generally lend itself to a slower step, but I move pretty fast and my cane comes up to just below my collarbones. Canes that are considerably longer than this will give you feedback further out, and if this is ideal for you, then that's fine. Generally though, that's a hell of a lot of cane, at least for me.And as far as foldable vs. rigid, don't let anyone tell you that one is definitively better than the other. Rigid canes are far harder to break and simply won't fall apart. foldable canes are far easier to stow and put away, particularly in tighter quarters. You'll hear people tell you that rigid canes give you more tactile feedback. I'm here to tell you that I've used both and I get oodles of info from a foldable cane, far more than I frankly need even in challenging environments. Don't let anyone push you into a cane type you don't like, don't want or don't need, whatever you do. Yes, that includes me. You have to use this thing every day, so make a choice that will mean that you are comfortable. Re: White cane size calculation
Re: White cane size calculation I've always had pretty good luck measuring to a little below my collarbone. I also prefer the foldable canes. Mine folds into five different segments, although I've seen folks with shorter canes than me fold theirs into six. I like a rolling marshmallow tip because using constant contact technique I tend to get more out of them and those pencil tips, which get stuck in things very easily. I also like a cane with ridged joints, as the smooth ones tend to actually slide apart while I'm using it. Re: White cane size calculation
Re: White cane size calculation These things are all relative though. I definitely prefer foldable myself as I like the convenience, I also do not care for those with hooks on, both because the hooks get in the way when using them, and because they always look a little too much like a physically impaired person's walking cane to me, where as my lady like's the hooks. Re: White cane size calculation
Re: White cane size calculation i'M usually going with nose or the sholder size since that type of cain is flexable to useand i dont prefer to use foldable cains for some reason because they are a bit heavy in my apinion URL: https://forum.audiogames.net/post/491994/#p491994 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
Re: White cane size calculation
Re: White cane size calculation I've always gone from the shoulder myself, sometimes I've used larger depending upon what size was available and that isn't too bad, but I certainly wouldn't want to go any smaller. Oh and yes, this does mean a major difference in cane size as regards person's height, since I'm five foot ten, and my lady's barely five foot. Re: White cane size calculation
Re: White cane size calculation It depends on how fast you walk, what type of cane, what technique you use, whether one type of cane works better for you, etc.I've heard height recommendations including naval, sternum, armpit, and nose. For a tall person, that can be well over 50cm of difference. If I had to generalize right now, I'd say that, if you want to go fast and can tolerate the longer variety, you're height minus 10-20cm might be good. Otherwise, I'd say your height minus 20-40cm, though at the far end it really depends on how tall you are (if you're 100cm, something shorter than you is probably too short, whereas if you're 180cm, something your height would be needlessly cumbersome). If you need a formula ... 3/4×your height is probably too short. 5/6× your height is probably a bit much, unless you're particularly fast. So ... 19/24? Maybe 5/6 isn't too bad... White cane size calculation
White cane size calculation Hello all,I just wanted to order a new white cane, and the one that I do use daily seems not quite fit for me, being a few cm shorter. So what would be the formula for calculating the white cane size, based on the height? And yes, in metric units please, no inches, feet etc, because we here don't use those. Thanks a lot in advance!
