Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids Moritz,The jump drive takes a variable amount of cells depending on the size of your ship. I think the TS-class Mercury is 10 cells per sector, including the starting one, according to Egosoft's FAQ. Smaller ones will obviously take fewer. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids Hi All,I updated the first post with a link to the newest scripts, as well as Malechai's excellent hotkey/controls reference. I also changed some wording around to make it clear that the information applies to both TC and AP. One of these days I'll have to see if I can make the hotkey script, which should be the only potentially incompatible point, work with either game. AP is best for quality of life improvements, but TC has its charms as well.I hope the updates help someone. I removed the direct Steam link to X3 TC because no one seemed to use it, and GoG seems more friendly for us anyway. It should be fairly trivial to find the games with a quick Google or I can add the GoG links instead. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids Hi.Ok, thanks to Zack my trading is now a whole lot smoother. Energie cells are really not that bad if everyone seams to be content with their ore supplys, but during that lacking energy. So, buying for 12 to 13 and selling at 18 to 19 with a large enough hold really helps.I installed the jump drive into my ship so I can get to sectors faster.Problem is now that when you transport other goods that you have to keep track of the energy cells you have in your hold, how much energy does the jump drive actually take?Greetings Moritz. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids Hi Simba,I just went through this yesterday for AP because I hadn't gotten around to it for some reason. Happy to help if I can.The way this works is, you go to the Controls options and create a new profile, I call mine "Accessibility," for obvious reasons. You can set it as your default in new games. One OCR trick I've found is that sometimes the only option which is not announced by NVDA is the one which is actually selected, this probably has to do with the color highlighting.Anyway. AFter you copy/create your new profile go right three places, to Interface. Go down all the way to the bottom, the menu doesn't loop. Hit enter on any hotkey and you'll get a list of four options, "Add control," "remove control," "apply," or "cancel." THe names might be slightly different, I'm typing this from memory, but the effect should be the same. You should also be able to see which key you're on. the one you want to add is for the trade log hotkey. I used F6.Basically hit ENter on "add," and then press F6, the game should make the usual confirmation sound and OCR shouldn't mention any conflicting keys. Go down to APply, and hit enter. After all that, you can save your profile, which is in the far left menu of options.Hope this helps. I'm happy to try and walk you through it on SKype if that would be easier. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids So here are some initial thoughts on combat…It's hard to manually control the ship, obviously, and the autopilot isn't the best at handling a dogfight where the enemy is trying to evade you, as tends to happen quite a lot. Still, with proper ship software, it's possible to let the ship itself do some fighting for you. This approach was recommended on the Egosoft forums as long as the ships are of equal or lesser class, which is something you have to either figure out by trial and error or look up.There are a couple scripts which look promising, they allow you to either have the ship fire automatically so you don't have to keep mashing the firing button, or basically treat your ships as a fighter carrier, and send swarms of them at the enemy automatically. I have yet to try these out. Finally, there are ways to get AI wingmen or drones to even the odds a little, and ways to have missile defense automated.I believe it should be possible to play a relatively combat-focused game even if we can't fly manually. The biggest problem is getting the proper software and possibly configuring the scripts. I'll keep everyone posted if I find something particularly intriguing. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids yes the way it used to work is that it leveled up to a given level then you yourself had to activate the universal trader. although a word of advice. if you wish to keep tabs to it, set it to have a homebase. doesn't matter where. the reason why is in case you wish to keep tabs on it and move it about a bit should you wish to do so. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids Hi MOritz,THat particular kind of order isn't really possible with the default commands, as far as I know. What you can do is set up a freighter to do completely automated trading. It will go off and do its own thing, choosing what to buy and sell based on the AI pilot's initiative. To do that you need to get Trade Software MK 3, which I think can be bought from the Teladi. I'm not sure if you also need MK 1 and MK 2, I've seen conflicting info on that.Edit: The way automated traders work is, they first start out only able to trade in one sector. They eventually "level up," and become able to do so across the universe. Eventually they can even use a jump drive to travel faster without having to gate everywhere. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids That is definitely a point in favor of EC's. I'll just say that I found the profit margin a little annoying as soon as I could afford an almost full hold of ore. Also, I've discovered that we can do missions, even if we have to talk to most people in the sector to find them. There is a quirk in the way the menus are set up, so the normal comms menu is 3 options, while one with a mission offer is 4. Also, the game helpfully tells you where your next destination is on the mission screen. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids you're b better off trading in energy cells. multiple reasons. they are:1. they are cheap. min price 12 max 20. it's pretty easy to find spp's and buy from them and sell to anything. bakeries, ranches mines etc. 2. they are small. 1 energy cell is equal to 1 unit. so if you can afford to buy 3000 energy cells you can buy 3000 energy cells. you can't do that with the likes of ore or silicon. 3. energy cells get used up quicker than anything else so the demand for them is greater. 4. you can cell them to pretty much any manufacturing facility whereas the likes of ore can only be sold to certain factory types. that's not to say you shouldn't trade in ore and the like but certainly in the early game i would stick to ec's. also you can use ec's to trade with paranid stations initially so you can increase your ratings with them in order to gain access to further paranid stations and tech. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids I've been thinking about this game again lately and am planning to try to play. The current work done on scripting takes a bit of setup, but once it's done the audio quality of the game makes things very playable. I hope I can enjoy the game without burning out on it this time around. Also of note, there are many mods to add functionality to the game, ranging from changed races to whole new factions and other things. I have yet to explore these as much as I would like to. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids hi all, there's been another script update. notes below. i'll put the update in the db folder now. I finally found some time to make some changes again:- If you have a Freight Scanner installed, and a ship targeted, pressing the hotkey will write a ship log to logfile 150 containing the following data:1. Some generic data: Relation (omitted if it's your ship), ship name, sector name, position in coordinates, distance to your current ship.2. The wares (and their amount) that are installed on the ship, divided into weapons (listed by front and turret weapons), shields and softwares. If none of either category are installed, the log will say so.3. The wares that are not installed on the ship (i.e. which are located in the cargo room), only if wares are present in the cargo room. The log will contain the ware, its amount, volume, transport class, whether the ware is illegal in the space of the current sector owner, and for missiles and weapons whether the target ship can install (i.e. use) them. The ship log is called for your current ship, if you have no target selected. Currently not logged are Marines and other personnel. - If you have a Trading Computer Extension installed, and a factory targeted, pressing the hotkey will write production information about that station to logfile 150 containing the following data:1. Some generic data: Relation, factory name (contains sector name), position in coordinates, distance to your current ship2. The product(s) sold by the station, including the current amount and maximum amount, the product name, the current price, the min and max price, the volume and the transport class of the ware, and whether the ware is illegal in the space of the current sector owner, only if it is really so.3. The resource(s) (divided into primary and secondary) bought by the station, including the current amount and maximum amount, the product name, the current price, the min and max price, the volume and the transport class of the ware, and whether the ware is illegal in the space of the current sector owner, only if it is really so. If the station has no resources of either type, the log will say so.4. The production cycle information, including how many units of which product(s) are produced in what time as well as which and how many wares are required for one cycle.5. The remaining time for the current production cycle.6. Whether the station has enough resources to start the next production cycle. If it has enough resoures to start more than one, the log will tell you how many cycles it can run with the current amount of resources. If it doesn't have enough resources, it tells you which ware(s) and how many units of them are missing. The current production log will not work very good with player complexes consisting of lots of different production chains. But for single NPC stations and NPC production complexes, as well as single player stations or complexes just containing one production chain, it should work fine. I'll see about changing that in the next version.- I also fixed / changed a couple of minor things:• The ware order for factories was incorrect (i.e. wares weren't logged in the correct order).• I replaced the long version of the transport class with the short version (e.g. "Extra Large Container" turns into "XL").• For ware containers floating in space, it is now also logged whether the ware is illegal in the space of the current sector owner. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids you need to go into options shift o. then down to controls enter. then copy profile that should be the first one. enter. then type a name for your profile. i just called mmine accessibility. after that you need to use your left and right arrows to go to different tabs. look for general. then arrow down to trade log hotkey. it should be all the way near the bottom. press enter on that. then there's 3 options. add control which is the top one. apply then canccancel if i remember rightly. hit add control. then tap the button you want to use. you don't need to press enter it will recognise the button. (note make sure the button you wish to use is not already in use by another function.) once you've done this click apply and you should be done. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids Also, a question regarding exploring of sectors.Let's say I jump into a sector and look up the log file of the stationary objects available. Let's also say that there are production complexes for shields, medium weapons and warheads.I now look through my auto pilot destinations and find the shield and medium weapon complexes quite quickly, but not the warheads one.I now would enter the coords of the warhead complex into my auto pilot, but wouldn't then the auto pilot crash into the production complex? So, when I want to fly to a stationary object, how far should the coordinates I enter into the autopilot be away from the target? And, if I, let's say, leave the sector and return with some new goods to sell, do I still need to enter the coords of the warheads complex again or will it already show up in my autopilot destinations so I can plott a clear course to that one? I noticed that it happens with gates, I did some exploring today, so I am just wondering if it's the same for the production complexes. For some strange reason though, when I enter the coordinates of a gate and engage the AP, it takes me to the coordinates, but I don't find a new gate on my scanners. Also not sure why that is.Greetings Moritz. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids ok firstly with the whole coords thing:1. you need navigation software. purchase at equipment docks. there's 1 in argon prime.2. activate command console. shift c.3. go to havigation. should be the top one.4. near to the bottom of the navigation menu i can't remember how far up from the bottom 3 or 4 arrow presses (i think) is the coords option. hit enter.5.type a set of coords as follows. 5000, 0, 5000 hit enter and you should be on your way to the in system coords.as for goals, well the beauty of this game is that you can start in any way you can. what i did was to maximise my cargo bay of the murcury. speed and rudder optimisation. then start trading. what i did next is to start moving about into space belonging to other races. such as the borons and the paranid. the borons have a really good super freighter that when fully upgraded can give you a cargo bay of 14000 units. the paranid food stuffs are excellent for trading. you'll see what systems i mean but i'll point you at empires edge dukes domain. once i got that ship and fully upgraded it i then started to invest in factories. now because stations get swapped in and out of the game regularly, it gets a little more difficult to tell you where to place factories but i can say that argon weet farms make good profits multiple races will buy from them and they will help with your race relations overall.now i have 4 factories, ore mine, silicon mine, weet farm and cahoona bakery. i also have an argon eclipse protecting me wherever i fly. armed with 8 HEPTS at the front, can't remember what weapons i have on my rear and front turret respectively. so i feel quite safe at the moment. i have 5x 25jg shields on my ts transporter and 1 200jg shields on my eclipse. so really in the first instance it's up to you what direction you wish to take however my next target is to go for a tl class transporter. that for me is going to be a boron orka. i need to check the stats on that but from what i remember it's the fastest of the tl's and the one that can carry the most cargo. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids ok there's been a further update to the scripts. changes below:- The position of your current ship is now written to logfiles 249 and 250 directly at the beginning, next to the sector name.- At the end of logfile 250 flying ware containers (i.e. containers in space with a ware inside) are listed, sorted by distance to your ship. The list includes the following information:• name of the ware in the ware container• Amount of the ware • Volume• Transport class• Whether you can transport the ware with your ship, and if so how many units you could carry at a max.• Distance to the ware container, including coordinates.(The list, including the headline "Container in space", is only logged, if there are actually containers in the current sector. You can test this by throwing something out of your ship's cargo room.) if anybody wants to follow this thread or even join in then go to https://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php … p;start=15you'll have to sign up to post. however there's a nasty capture there that you'll need help to get around or ask the forum admins to help you with.the scripts are now in the db folder. i've removed all the previous versions of the scripts to save confusion. so in that folder you'll find the latest scripts plus the x plugin manager. Exactly which files will I need? where are the files I will need, and are they up to date? Thanks. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids just so you know, i've managed with zacs permission to give the scripts as they stand now to the egosoft forums and they have improved upon it. the trading script works better now. it lists the produts in order as they would be shown on the screen. it also lists the prices correctly including the average price, volume and container size.the map script now lists ships first then stations but relative to your ships location and the ships relation to you. whether it be neutral enemy or what. i'm hoping that we can get some further additions to these.the new scripts are in the db folder that has already been shaired on here.thanks to zac for laying the foundations and making it possible for others to continue on. you've started something truly brilliant and it also helps to raise awareness of accessibility for future games in a more public domain. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids ok so i just bought an argon eclipeclipse. that's a heavy m3 fighter. i've managed to fully arm it including turrets. i've also managed to give the turrets commands to protect the ship. i also have a transporter device in both my ships. it's dead easy to transport yourself between ships. just press i once the ship has been targeted to bring up it's menu then press x and woosh you're in. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids ok so for those of you that are still playing:still got 3 factories, going to get my fourth soon. i'm wanting to make as much of my own resources as i can before i start on anything else. 2. after i bought my super fraiter my boron one, i encountered a problem. the problem was that as soon as i tried to undock with certain factories notably the low yield shield fabs, it would crash. as soon as i undocked my ship would explode. luckily i've been talking to a very helpful member of the egosoft forums. it's a bug. because of the sheer size of the vessel it doesn't always let you manoeuvre. so here is what you do. if you encounter this and you need to undock but can't the sollution is the following, follow the below instructions exactly and you'll be flying again as soon as possible: note, the below instructions apply only when docked and are in the main menu. by that the standard menu you get once you have docked and done nothing else. so if you have made your trade for example press escape and you'll be in the main menu.1. go to landed ships. shortcut key is l.2. arrow to your vessel. this is the top ship. 3. press c for communication/command console.4. go to navigation. this is the first menu you don't need to move your cursers. 5. arrow to dock at... this is where you tell the ship where you wish it to go.6. you will first be presented with the universe map. if you wish to stay in the same sector just press enter as soon as this comes up. it highlights the sector you are already in.7. arrow to the instalation you wish to fly too and press enter.you should be done then. the ships computer should then say "docking granted autopilot activated." something like that anyway.what actually happens is that temporarily the ability to crash is disabled until you get passed the station. then it reverts. you should now be flying. yes this frustrated me for quite a while. at first i thought there was something in front of the factory. but there wasn't. i sent my save to this person that has really been helping me also with menu descriptions as well and they told me about this bug. because there was nothing blocking my way at the factory. anyway hope that helps some of you. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids Hi All,I feel like I owe everybody an explanation for where I've been lately and why I've gone silent. It's a combination of factors.I do have a new job, or at least freelance work, which was consuming a lot of my time, but I was also running into burnout with X3 and some of its issues. The scripting language is very nice up to a point, but there are some problems that are quite difficult to solve, no matter how simple they might appear on paper.I was also a little overwhelmed with the enthusiasm shown by the community for the game. In retrospect, I feel as though I should have waited to make an announcement until things were in a slightly less larval form, that is, until I was sure I could play the game reliably and not have to release updates every so often. The combination of the new work, scripting frustrations, and burnout after having done very little except stare at X3 for a solid month lead to my withdrawal. So where do things stand now? I haven't touched X3 for a while, though will probably return to it at some point in the future. I can't promise success, because scripting is still problematic. I have become interested in other gaming related projects, but don't feel comfortable talking too much about them here because I don't want this cycle to repeat itself.Mojsier, I never had any problems getting Plugin Manager to work. I wonder, are you perhaps running a non-English version of WIndows? I don't know if that might cause some of the strange symptoms you're seeing.I don't know what you're talking about with a converter, unfortunately.I'll monitor this thread for further questions, and keep everyone posted on what happens on my end. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids am not really sure how to answer this. am hoping zac comes back to answer this as am not too sure. i take it, that the plugin manager is the only thing that crashes on your system? you got no nasties on there? malware viruses etc? are you using windows 10? you might want to ask on the egosoft forums about this as in why the plugin manager won't run because you might get a quicker response. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids well i'm doing pretty well with it so far. i have 2 factories that are making profit or will be. i'm trying to get a steady income flowing first before i try doing anything else. i wouldn't say the hoops that we're jumping through are that disruptive. there are some things that are annoying sometimes but they are stuff that you can cope with easily enough. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids Hi, this is something that I'd really like to play, but I'd only want to do so if the extra hoops to jump through aren't too disruptive to the actual gameplay experience. What is the current status, in terms of how much of the game can be played? Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids so anybody bought a new ship yet? right now i'm flying a boron dolphin. they are slower for sure than the argon murcury, but they hold much more cargo. once fully expanded they can fill most s and m class factories. not really the l class though some of the res holds for them are quite large. but there is a big advantage to buying a big amount of resource it works really well. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids Daren,The script bug you refer to is probably because some stations and equipment docks will buy items from your ship even if they aren't formally listed in the goods they will sell. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids
Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids ok so now i finally got back to the place i was at last time in tc. i now have a murcury that is fully upgraded in terms of speed, rudder and cargo bay extension. so now i'm thinking of aiming at either a super dolfin or a factory of some kind. it's good to be back at this point because it opens up for me at least more flexibility because before i do stuff i like to have a fully extended cargo bay. it allows you eventually to control the local economy. to gain control of the local economy paves the way for you to place a factory where you create the demand. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids Okay, first of all,I tried X4 today, and my computer isn't able to run it. Therefore, I probably can't do anything with it until I get a new machine, which is probably not going to be any time soon.Daren, no, I cannot write a script to do something with hotkeys on any game screen. Script hotkeys are limited to when your ship is in space, and don't work in menus or other contexts.I just started a new job this week, but I can write a cargo log easily enough. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids hi zac.could you write a script to display the contents of the cargo bay of said ship? or of whatever ship of yours yu are trying to remotely control? i ask because certainly when it comes to the ships cargo bay that i'm currently flying i'm having varying degrees of success with the OCR. sometimes good other times not so good at all. so am wondering if you can do something about this? actually thinking about it would you be able to do a script that can handle with a hotkey any of the game screens? can something like that be done? whether it be a trade screen or some such other screen?
