Re: anime email lists Also, if you want to do a list specifically for English dubbed anime fans only, you might have a smaller list than you expect... I listen to dubs occasionally, but I definitely don't do it on a regular basis. For everything except anime specifically set in the west or with western themes, I prefer the Japanese audio. Re: anime email lists Ok... I see what you're looking at. but that definition is completely subjective... I think Attack on Titan is very clear, it's one of my favourite anime to date. I don't know if Dark would agree, but that's just my sense on that one. As to anime, 90% of anime you will ever watch has overexaggerated sounds that pretty much make it easy to tell what's happening in any situation. DBZ is not the only anime where dialog is used to describe what's going on. Other anime like Naruto, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and attack on Titan have dialog written that conveys what characters are thinking during a fight, almost subtle commentary of sorts and is exellent. And there are plenty of blind people who are into anime, we just don't tend to come out of the woodwork, and many blind people who don't watch anime don't do it because there indeed is no audio description available. And even with the dialog, you still won't get as much detail as you would with actual audio descriptions. Re: anime email lists first, would there be a demand in the blind community for an english dubbed anime email list? second, it seems also, that for some reason most people who are blind that i know of are not into anime. is anime such as dragonball and dbz difficult or hard to get into for people who are blind? I have been totally blind my whole life and i just got into dbz around 6 years ago at the age of 28 years old for me. and it was not hard at all but you have to start at the beginning to understand it and really get into it. if most anime has a good dialog, story, sounds and music then it should not be difficult for blind people to follow, and get into. Re: anime email lists @dark, are you able to follow the other anime pretty good without audio description? while i do wish there was audio description for dbz and db, it really isn't needed to follow the story at all. like star trek, it explains itself making audio description not really needed. also today we have wikis on the anime to read more about the characters and stuff. Re: anime email lists sorry I should have been more clear. dbz does not need audio description due to its excellent dialog, sound effects, and music. in other words dbz pretty much explains itself as it goes along. I was asking if other anime uses rich sound effects, dialog, and music, and explains itself like dbz does, such that audio description is not needed? or, are there certains animes that we cannot watch because they are the opposite of dbz? not much explanitory dialog, sounds that are not very distinctive, and not very good music? Re: anime email lists While I'm not in general as bothered about the various db iterations (I had enough with the original dbz), I do wish there were some audio description so I could introduce Mrs. Dark to some of the more fun or disturbing anime. My brother and I were watching future diary which was pretty awesome, likewise the second series of attack on titan is coming out soon and I've not yet seen black butler. My brother also got something wonderfully weerd sounding for christmas, assassination classroom about a giant intergalactic octipus that is threatening to destroy the earth unless it's made teacher of a high school class, who then proves to be the most brilliant teacher anyone has ever had . So, shame there isn't audio described anime, but ah well so it goes.
