Re: how do i create sounds with gold wave?

There's a few ways. Too complex to explain in one post, but just to get you started, here's some advice. First, get the nvda addon that will greatly enhance accessibility. The good thing about Goldwave is it's a lightweight, versatile audio editor, not too many commands to remember. As for how to create sounds, it all depends on what you wanna do. If you plan on straight-off recording, start a new file, and press ctrl+f9 to start recording, ctrl+f8 to stop. Now whether you're recording something new or working with an existing file, these commands apply. Please note that pretty much every effect you make at this point depends on selection, so let's cover that first as you'll be using that the most. If you want down to the sample audio editing which Goldwave is famous for, a fast computer is definitely recommended. To select text, you use the brackets. What we need is a q-point at
the start of what you want to select, and a q-point at the end. This may seem a bit daunting at first but let's put this into a basic scenario. You want to make a ringtone out of a song, so you'd want to take the chorus out of the song. So what you do is you load the song, you play it up to the chorus. L is your fast forward switch, j is rewind, and k is normal speed. When you get to the chorus, fast forward and rewind till you're at the absolute beginning of the chorus, then use the left bracket key to make that your start position. Now play through the chorus till it's done, stop the playback, then use the right bracket key to end that selection. Note that while it's always good to be as precise as possible, ringtones are known to never properly loop on most handsets, so if you're precise down to the sample and your ringtone doesn't loop on your phone, it's not a big deal. If you're inclined to do so, you could loop your selection in Go
ldwave or any other player on your pc that properly loops, and if it works on that you're fine. Anyway, once you're done selecting, you can either copy it to the clipboard, delete it, apply effects, or save your the splice you selected to another file altogether. The last option is what we want for our purposes. It's under the file menu, save selection as. Give the ringtone a name preferably different from the song's filename so as not to get confused, and you're good from there, you should be able to copy your ringtone to your phone and use it. Now for the effects. Goldwave has a very wide selection of built-in effects, but your world is ever-expanding thanks to vst's. Vst's are plug-ins that can be loaded into your audio editor. This is recommended, as while lots of Goldwave's effects are good, some of them, like the reverb, are not. You can clearly tell the reverb is artificial because it sounds very mechanical. It's been argued the ot
her editors like Wavepad have better built-in effects, but why buy a separate editor just for those when you could get equivalent or better results even with free vst's? Although, I would actually recommend buying Wavepad whenever that thing's on discount which is a lot, as the masters edition comes with a very good sound library with sounds and production music. But all that aside, if you want good reverb, you're gonna wanna get a vst. Fortunately, we have a free one right here, classic reverb. Now let's talk about the trial version of Goldwave, as it isn't explained all that clearly. Goldwave is $45 very reasonably priced for what you get. The evaluation is not limited by days at all. It has a 3000 command limit. Commands can be anything from play-stop to applying effects, basically uses of the editing functions. Every time you run the program, you get 200 commands. After the 2
00th command, you will get a nag screen every time you execute another command, making it practically impossible to anything other than save your work. The nag screen tells you that time's up and you can restart the program to get another 200 commands. This continues until you reach 3 cumulative commands, which equates to 15 runs of the program. Very reasonable. If you like what you see, you can go ahead and buy the program and unlock it.
