Re: how to stop this robot overlord?

Well the interface has certainly changed. There was a major rewrite of the interface for 2013 which took out all the standard windows things  the menu bar and standard property sheets and such, meaning I had to use the dolphin curser for things. Since then the interface has gotten worse with each version, and this is 2016.Then there is the problem of false positives and process blocks. Avg always did this occasionally, but when it is at the point of flagging things like Crazy party, particularly since exception managing is no longer as easy as it used to be and you have the recipe for disaster. It is a shame, I've used Avg since 2007 generally speaking it has been pretty great at keeping my machines safe, I also got a lot  of mileage out of their pc tuneup system at one time (though admittedly that was before I discovered C cleaner). But hay so itgoes, and really the way Avg has been  over the past few versions I'm not surpr
ised, it's just such an irritation that moving on is as much of a pain as it is.

Re: how to stop this robot overlord?

Again,  the exception settings in Avg haven't been accessible since Avg 2014 unfortunately. We'll have to ask a friend to remove it from my lady's machine I think, though needless to say once it is gone that is that. The other sad thing is Avg used to have a very nice tech support hotline who were actually extremely helpful, but again, this went down the tubes. They offered a generic tech support service instead, somewhere in india I think, but they were a dead loss unless you had one of the problems written on their specific problem sheet.

Re: how to stop this robot overlord?

Confirmed, it's their own interface.well I stll can't convince my Dad to remove it off our family pc, and I really would like to do this to be honest, before all my games get flagged. In fact, ya know what? I'm even scared just to touchc razy party at the moment because people are saying it's getting quarenteened, so I'd arther remove this before all this gets started, if I'm aloud, or, find a way to add it to exceptions if there's no other choice.

I did try that with pctuneup but again, no go, since I suspect Avg has it's own custom interface for removal.Well this settles it, avg is definitely black listed in accessibility terms.

Re: how to stop this robot overlord?

@Aaron, I'll give that a try. do believe I tried to uninstall a couple of other avg components and had the same issue, but we will see.@socheat, Avg used to be good, but it has been getting worse for years. Both in terms  bringing up false positives and being far more ruthless about flagging or deleting them, and in terms of the interface getting less and less screen reader friendly, especially as far as changing options etc go. I kept it around when I used Xp, but now I've upgraded to windows 10 I'm glad to give it the heave hoe. That isalso why I'm trying to remove it from my lady's windows 7 machine we can upgrade her laptop to windows 10.Edit: Okay this isn't working either. I have two entries in the registered programs list, avg pc tuneup and avg protection. When I go to pc tuneup, the computer just sits there and doesn't seem to do anything. When I try it a second time I am told "please wait f
or the current program to finish uninstalling, but nothing is happening (and I have waited a good ten minutes). With C cleaner, trying to uninstall Avg pc tuneup just resulted in C cleaner sitting around and doing nothing, while trying to uninstall avg protection gave me an error. I could use C cleaner to delete the registry entries, though I don't know if this is a good idea or not.God, if I'd known this dam thing was so hard to get rid of I'd have never installed it in the first place!Edit the second: Okay, I now see what is heppning, when I go to uninstall Avg pc tuneup a very lovely, completely unreadable, inaccessible box appears, (inaccessible with either Nvda or Supernova). Thanks a bunch Avg.We'll obviously need to get a sighted person  to get rid of this stupid thing, a fact which I confess is bloody annoying!

Re: how to stop this robot overlord?

Hi Dark,According to AVG's website you have to take a slightly different approach. When you go to the place where you uninstall programs, do not select the icon just called AVG. That icon is actually a management console, and will not uninstall. Instead, keep going down the list, apparently removing all the other avg products that you have first. Now, I don't know if the avg uninstallation wizard is accessible or not.Hope this helps and please let me know.

Well after  Avg wouldn't let my lady run the latest crazy party, it is time for it to go, however can I uninstall it? can I hell. I've tried with windows and C cleaner and no good. I also downloaded the avg remover tool, but I just see a bunch of buttons with no labels. Likewise, the option to remove the  protect in Avg's own dialogue isn't accessible either. I'm actually sorry I bothered installing the thing now.Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: how to stop this robot overlord?

@6 and 7, try Sophos. Don't use Windows Defender -- ever. Sophos always scans your computer for viruses, and, if found, will immediately detect it and delete it. If it thinks that it has a virus but the program it thinks is a virus really isn't, it'll put an alert in the Sophos UI that you can choose to ignore or get rid of. I'd say choose Immunet too, but... it's not that accessible.

Re: how to stop this robot overlord?

Actually Avg seems to be getting less accessible with each version, these days even managing reports is a little difficult and requires very pprecise hotspot clicking, I've also more and more false positives as well (it objected to MushZ the other day on my lady's machine). My lady has it installed on her windows 7 machine, and I still have it on my xp laptop, but I think when I get a new win 10 laptop and my lady upgrades we're going to move away from avg and use windows defender instead.

@Conner142, what version of AVG are you using? AVG is quite accessible, so your probably using an out-of-date version of it.

Probably another option, if you have a talking recovery environment, would be to boot that, then just delete the program directories where the antivirus programs are installed. Then reboot. Processes cannot start if the programs no longer exist!

how to stop this robot overlord?

hey everyone, so as yall may know from my topic in ggd, I'm having some problems with removing av programs. now I've disabled all of avg's processes in the tm's startup tab, but firstly, it still starts up and deletes programs, secondly when I try to delete it it says I need permitions from system, or some other random administrator even though my account is the only admin account on this computer, and I already told it to continue with automatic administrator rights. Also, mcafee got installed with avg, and I can't uninstall that either because of more inaccessible uninstallers and its processes aren't showing up in startup but are starting themselves none the less. If I try to kill these av processes with tm so I can try to shift+delete them, nothing happens when I do "end task".
