Maybe none of the games we can play well right now are very intensive, but how much might that change in 8 years, and even if it doesn't, we'll still need significantly more power than we have now for running 2028's version of a mid level graphics intensity game. And even the lower rtx3060 or 2060 can do all of those things and more, and run any game, though you might need to turn down the resolution. A high end GPU is still very much pointless. Re: my computer is not ariving before the siksteenth of january Iirc, you used to be able to run AI dungeon on NVIDIA CUDA cores also, but you needed something like 10 GB of vram to hold the dataset as well as the overheads for rendering the desktop etc. RTX voice is CUDA accelerated also, despite the name giving the impression it runs on Tensor cores and it actually does not sound like ass. There are also cases where games will use the GPU to process audio effects and the like. Sooner or later someone is going to figure out that a large amount of people have a big chunk of parallel processing hardware that they can do AI things on slotted into their motherboards and start using that for human sounding voices (TM).GPUs aren't just for graphics anymore and haven't been for years, but it seems like more and more people are coming to that conclusion. The brains of your phone, are its processor, and ram. Now apps are increasing in size and processing requirements very dramatically over the last 6 years. If your phoe's processor is too weak to support your activities, you will have problems. Similarly with ram. Also phone antenna arrays are better than they were before, and support better signal. A newer phone also supports more frequency bands that carriers use, as well as new technologies, such as voice over 5g new radio (VONR). These changes aren't significant year to uyear, but if you had a 6 year old phone, like I did, they add up, and getting a new phone will give you a much more pleasant experience. The 4700U is a powerful chip in the low power space, but put up against op's desktop and it's a completely one-sided curb stomp for the desktop.Given that op's desktop is also a gaming desktop, it will doubtless have at least one of the case panels made from tempered glass, and will have more flashing color changing lights in it than some nightclubs. For the parts in fred's machine you're already looking at about 1.8 to 2K just for the base parts, add in the RGB gubbins and fancy glass panels and you're up at that 2.5K mark no problem. Fredd may have went for extra warranty or something else, as from their posts they seem like the cautious type that would get the extra peace of mind from doing so.Taking all that into consideration, this is a pretty normal price for a pre-built. But here is a fact, cheap laptops will always have something fundementally wrong or messed up with them, iether stuff that doesn't matter for us, such as the display, or important stuff, soldered low ram, single channel ram, underpowered or inadequately coolled processor etc. I did spend over 1k for my laptop, with the highest AMD processor available, and don't regret this. Shame toshiba isn't around though, their machines were like tanks until intel processor updates ruined mine. My first 2 computers, I did not make a wise decision. 930 for a surface pro 3, which btw i had to get 3 of them because the first 2 crapped out on me out of nowhere only like half a year after receiving them. And 1050 down from 1250 for a 2015 macbook pro. That thing sucks. It can't handle anything. Even trying to convert something with iMovie makes the fan go on full blast. And the cooling in the macbook, total trash, at least in my experience. So yeah, I've been ripped off before. It took me a few years to start being wise with my computer purchases. Oh btw both the surface pro 3 and macbook were only 128 gb and 4 gb of ram. So that was also a pain in the ass. My current computer has 256 gb and 8 gb of ram, which works good enough for me. The ProBook I've got cost around $900, I believe, without anything put into it, and then I put as much RAM as I could into the thing, swapped out for a better hard drive, and that put the price up a little bit. This thing is still extremely zippy three full years after I got it; the only thing I don't like - which I've talked about before, at length - is its awful keyboard. Apart from that, it's never had issues and is still in great shape. Still runs like a champ. Money well spent, IMO.So, uh, let's maybe not shame Fred if he got himself a really powerful machine?
