Re: renpy a possible new gaming environment?

Well don't let that fool you guys. There are some good visual novels.blue rose is one, all the sarafina series is accessable and good. The mis ka effect while parts of the menus are not accessable is good enough to play. The sarafina series second novel has some semi inaccessable parts but you can play it with a little memmory and its not to much really. You never need more then the first or 3rd item down or up at any one time and I was able to play it.Sadly a lot of the early projects were just testing the waters and were not accessable. Most of the free projects are sadly just total crap. Some of the comercial ones have customised engines.Anything with custom engines and images and controls will not work as will several of the addon rpg maker modules. However once you have voice you can play  the visual novels. If you don't like the word visual novel, think of it in the terms of choose your own adventure an
d cross it with gamebook. While renpy does have ios and android addins most of the coman downloads are for windows mac and linux. The books can be as much as 20 bucks with extras but most are between 2 and 10.I have at least 3 stories 2 of them payed which I will play aggain. One thing I'd recomend is you go to your %appdata% folder and once you are done with all the books and stuff delete the contence of the renpy folder so you can play the books again and not skip. Some books have audio and sapi for bits and pieces however audio voices will stop sapi speaking so if you don't get all of it or where it is needed you will have to push down and up a couple times to read the sapi and also in some situations when stuff refreshes on screen sapi has a hard time catching up.However I am just happy I can access electronic books of a sort.Another thing is that most of the indie developers on there especially the ones you buy from will try to ma
ke things accessable but they may or may not have contact info accessable and that can be a big issue. However once they realise a blind person is playing their game they will try to make things accessable.Aparently depending on what needs work its relitively easy to make things work.Sadly anything below 2014 seems to be not round or uses the wrong version.Sometimes devs download and continue to develop games without updating their development tools and that can be a big issue. With all I just said most of the stuff is ok.You are limited to scifi and fantacy, some of the books are stratigy based but most are animais/ no plot stories and experimentals. In fact most of the books are totally junk and where they are accessable they may or may not be good. The stuff updates a lot though.Books you should watch out for are the following.1.  the sarafina series as all of those are good enough to play.2.  blue rose.3.  walkerman, which should be released in the next month or so.This has had input from me on its access and so does work now. Most of their stuff uses paypal to which helps. One thing though to note is some books are quite long, sarafina2 had me at my system for most of a night and day playing. In most renpy books if you logically follow what should happen then its the right thing.Or if you follow your guts then you will pull through.I like this concept because it emulates real life, if you are a stupid retard and just run over someone in the streat or just happily shoot up a bar you get what is coming to you.If you play fair you will get treated that way.The same happens here, there are no hacks, cheats or anything. Some of the comercial books have installers and if they do you should be warey as a lot of those are not accessable. Some have downloaders which may install other things.I had one I was going to play wi
th a downloader I no sooner started it and got past the inaccessable part when unchecky warned me that the program had potentual malware in it.Most of the books are portable zips and can be used anywhere. The only thing they will do is leave a renpy folder in your appdata folder which you can easily kill after the books are run.As a game form its something to run if you want.Particular if you are deaf and can't hear the range I assure you its all just one source with no effects at all for the most part.Pluss I think that the books render on screen anyway so if you can see the text then it works for you.I am not sure with magnification but I am sure you could enlarge the window like any window. From looking at various source material, renpy is a mixture of python, java, _javascript_ and linux script as well as a few other scripts. Its core is python and its stable.

Re: renpy a possible new gaming environment?

Well I know nothing about this visual novel thing, or rather I've heard of visual novels in terms of the Japanese interactive commics usually with a romantic theme, however I don't know  much on blue rose or this Renpy engine. However, kicking around google I did find Anamnesis, which sounded all sorts of awesome and is according to it's developer pure text, however I get no text at all when running the thing which is odd sinse it looks like a console window and is run in python. The website is Here if anyone who knows more of renpy  wishes to check it out. As I said, the writeup looks awesome, more rpg than cyoa, including the mention of pure text, but the access is, totally off, however sinse the n
otes say it was developed with the Renpy engine I thought I'd ask, though from sean's earlier comments this might be a bad job after all.

Hello,I believe the PC version is the only one that got the accessibility changes added to it. I'm not sure if the iOS version will get them in the future.

Re: renpy a possible new gaming environment?

Hello,They are not on iOS. Renpy is a visual novel engine for the PC, very much focusing on japanese style stories, but some of them have stats and such. It is, though, quite anime/japanese style.

Re: renpy a possible new gaming environment?

I've noticed that too. I really don't care much about it anymore. The "graphic novel" was mainly, from what I've heard, made specifically for the boy meets girl kind of genre.

renpy a possible new gaming environment?

renpy a possible new gaming environment?

Hi all.I was going to put a new game article on how good ren py was and with my purchice of blue rose and how I really liked it I decided to go through the stories on the website. However I found most of them to have shallow plots boy girl relationships and superheroe stuff with no real substance in them what so ever.Everything from 2015 to 2011 was accessable to the most part and everything before that was rubbish. There were a few games like the unknowns series which looked good but it ended up with the second volume with an impossible boss fight that had me going at for 5 hours till I gave up.The only other game was mac blade and then it was so short that well it was.Everything else was magic or Japanese / school stuff. And if I was a girl or a teen I guess I would be after that my problem was that most of the games are all that way.Vary few adult games and I don't mean adault meaning sex but actual story novels like blue rose.<
br />Something that would keep me entertained. The closest I found was a spirit sim but I have no care to play that to much there were vampires and other horror which again is not exactly me either.Leaving that there are the games by winterwolves which guess what are really good so I brought them only to find they were inaccessible which sucked. Then I got sciencegirls which looked semi interesting by the same guys that made blue rose and the game wouldn't even start. The other game series moe wars is complete unplayable due to access.I am starting to wander if I have just wasted the best part off 100 bucks on a janre of game that is either unplayable or that most have been written by anyone well anyone that doesn't like a good school romance, quick fight and or fuck!I was really looking for real good stories like blue rose and I am a bit disappointed I am engaging hopefully with winterwolves to get my cash back or get their games I may do
that with the makers of moe wars but to be honest if that's all the series we have this engine may as well be unplayable. On that note I do wander how easy it is to code games surely it must be easy enough to write one.The engine is free so why can't I I have been looking for something to do for ages but to be honest I really am not sure where to start. Are there any good games out in this engine I have missed since all I have gone on are the main ren py lists.Unless I am being a utter bastard with zombie brains that is.I know others have been playing for ages I'd like some pointers maybe what to go for now.
