Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] problem with Transporter

2007-12-15 Thread david . kuller

like in the howard stern movie, she tipped over the speaker sub pointing
up, turned off the treble and cranked the bass and volume, then sat on
the speaker as he mumbled and sputtered - that seemed to transport her!

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter Output Stage Questions

2007-12-15 Thread WilCox

Thanks Sean. I think people fail to understand that proper analog
circuit design is a more fundamental driver of audio fidelity than the
price of the component parts. Simply adding boutique audiophile parts
will not necessarily make things better -- often it makes things
worse!

Here's an article by Bob Pease that puts some of this into
perspective:

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Just about had heart failure.

2007-12-15 Thread mikeruss

Just put up the xmas tree. The tree has to go where one of the speakers
sits. So... I have moved the speaker next to the other for the xmas
period.

Turned music on to listen to some tunes while we decorate the tree. To
my horror it sounds awful. All the low end has gone. I think to myself
don't panic I have probably knocked a connection. I go through the
lot from power, amp, sb to speakers and all is ok. I then go through sb
settings, resttart server etc. Still the same. Just about in tears I
think well the only thing that has changed is the possition of the
speakers. But they are next to each other and in a corner which should
equal shed loads of bass/low end. I disconnect one of the speakers and
booom. Low end back. Reconnect and try the other and the same thing,
sounds normal.

All I can think of is the speakers so close either some of the low end
out...

PHEW!!

agreed, that really sound like they're out of phase.

Check your connections, but even if the external connections look

When we are at it. One question Mr Adams. As the evaluation board of the
AKM4397 from AKM uses the exact same values for all parts as the
evaluation board of the AKM4396 and the Transporter but the LME49710
instead of the NE5534.
Did you test your Transporter circuit with the LME49710 in?

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] crackles and pops between tracks

2007-12-15 Thread Wirrunna

Mickey Gee,
I have sent the track to you via email.

1. I have attached the file I mentioned in the thread.
2. SlimServer - SlimServer Version: 6.5.5 - 15021 - Windows XP - EN -
cp1252
Server IP address: 192.168.1.6
Perl Version: 5.8.8 MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
MySQL Version: 5.0.22-community-nt
3. Squeezebox 3 via analogue outputs to NAD C740 Receiver Disc input
then Klipschorn loudspeakers.

The noise occurs when the track is played in a playlist by itself and
repeat is on, i.e. it loops. The noise occurs (on my system) immediately
before the repeat starts. The sequence is song plays, silence for a few
seconds, click, song plays etc.

4. I loaded SlimServer 7 on another PC and the click happens in the
same circumstances.
5. The track was ripped using iTunes v7.0.1.8 to Apple Lossless.
6. MusicIP has archived its analysis in the file.
7. When played in iTunes or MusicIP in a playlist by itself there is no
click.

As a retired computer veteran (I started coding in IBM Assembler in the
sixties) I am aware of the vast number of variables in the SlimServer
chain and was reluctant to file a bug until I could get someone else to
confirm the problem.
