Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] is there THAT much difference betweeen SB3 ran through quality DAC and Transporter?
Are you asking if the SB3 + DAC is better than a TP using its own DAC or is the digital output of a TP better than a Sb3? -- Rodney_Gold Sb3/Z-sys RDP1/meridian DSP5500's TP/X-cans v3/Senns 650's TP/TACT 2.0/SCM 50a's TP/Meridian DSP5000's The nicest thing about smacking your head against the wall is...the feeling you get when you stop Rodney_Gold's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14618 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=50428 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Gazjam;324303 Wrote: I know the TP can play 24/96 files that the SB3 cant. But...playing regular FLACs ripped from Redbook CD, is there such a great difference? I'm investing in a better DAC (upgrading my Beresford - looking at the Stello 100) and (just out of curiosity) I wonder what the difference between a setup like this and teh Transporter, playing Redbook CD rips. Thanks! I would say that the sound of an SB3 with high quality outboard DAC playing back lossless files ripped from a Redbook CD would be very close to the sound of the Transporter playing back the same files. But that said, there are still some other differences between the two set ups which mostly have to do with the Transporters built in word clock function. The real question is just how resolving a system (preamp, power amp and speakers) one needs to actually hear the very, very slight difference afforded by the Transporter's better word clock. Besides which I'm not even sure that the Transporter's word clock function comes into play when using the Transporter's own internal DAC. Of course if one possesses such a high quality playback system then one would might actually want the Transporter because of it's ability to play back high resolution digital files (24/88.2 or 24/96). -- ralphpnj Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - Snatch - The Transporter - Transporter 2 'Last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/jazzfann/) ralphpnj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10827 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=50428 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Hi Eric, I'm giving the three month trial a go - if it's up to scratch it could save me a lot of money on CD's - what is your connection with Pete Gabriel ? -- pkfox When the going gets weird - the weird turn pro. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] FLAC recordings available here
Hi Eric, I got the full tour of Gabriel's studio a few years back. It's by no means a home studio. There are a number of different recording areas, each with it's own unique sound and space. The studio manager is also hifi friendly, and they have paid a lot of attention to various things, such as the way the earthing is arranged - it all runs into the lake!!! All in all, an excellent studio, well run, with a really chilled out vibe in a beautiful area of England. -- bigfool1956 David Ayers Music is what counts, hifi just helps us enjoy it more bigfool1956's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=50413 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Musical Fidelity KW250s
Should do, as far asd I know my rack is standard width and it fits very nicely (can't remember the make as I bought it years ago). You're more likely to have a problem with the depth as the KW250 is deep According to the manual it's 485mm wide, 470mm deep, 170mm high and weighs in at a back breaking 29.5kg -- killie99 Musical Fidelity KW250S, Impulse H2 speakers oh, and an SB3 killie99's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8337 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43652 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] FLAC recordings available here
Peter had finished a 'loft', of sorts, off of his home... I should've specified it wasn't the main studio. The plans have been made available and, actually, the whole 25'x25' building was being given away loaded with gear and instruments as part of a promotion at last October's AES convention in NYC. I'll see if I can find info about it a post a link. It was quite awesome. Peter did show up in NYC for a couple of days to promote it. Of course it had a new SSL AWS900 in it. back on topic I, too, have downloaded the free EP files. Haven't had a chance to listen yet. Looks like a great concept. I wish more producers would make stuff available like this. -- Eric Seaberg Eric Seaberg - San Diego A.E.S., S.M.P.T.E., S.P.A.R.S. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] crackles and pops between tracks
This problem has never been resolved and was recently discovered by another user - http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=324187postcount=342 , however this time it was blamed on MusicIP and was also posted in their forums. The MIP people tested submitted tracks and concluded that it was a Squeezebox problem - http://forums.musicip.com/index.php?showtopic=3649 - as the noise only appeared when played through a Squeezebox, not through other players. -- Wirrunna A camel is a racehorse designed by a committee. I thought that the Transporter into a DAC was better than the stock SB3 into the same DAC (in the same system). much means different things to different people with different systems but I IMHO the Transporter digital output is clearly superior. -- Nuuk Nuuk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4844 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=50428 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
