What use would a WC _input_ be on a DAC? Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Using External Word Clocks with the Transporter
Hi Teros, Does your DAC also have word clock inputs ? And it is synthesizing the clock not from the SPDIF input from Transporter but relies on the WC ? -- SoftwireEngineer SoftwireEngineer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7000 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=58682 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

When I first arrived here from Germany I fired up my Quad 77 tuner, it was no better than the analogue output from the Virgin Cable Box (128K/s MP2?) After adding a Beresford DAC fed from the optical out of the Virgin Box, it pulled ahead of the FM Tuner. 128Kb/s streams via the SB3 and the Beresford are often better than the Virgin Box. There are a few 320Kb/s streams that are even better. The FM tuner may have performed better if I had put up my five element antenna; but I will not be here long, and I was not convinced I would get a decent signal so I didn't bother - it would cost! Anyone want to buy a Quad 77 tuner? -- Labarum Brian Squeezebox 3 Classic and Virgin Cable Box Beresford DAC TC-7510 MK6/4 - Quad 405-2 refurbished by 405man Quart 980s German Tower Loudspeakers. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Trasnporter display flashes while idle
Just for info, this problem has now magically disappeared from my Transporter! I did take it up with support. Their advice was to uninstall everything, clean up any remaining traces of SqueezeCenter and then re-install it all again. In my personal opinion that is really lame and useless advice, also resulting in losing all my settings and setup. In my professional capacity I'm the head of software development for a fairly large engineering software company - if one of our support people offered such advice without first trying to find the cause of the problem he/she will be fired on the spot! Problems don't just automagically go away. Yes, uninstalling and reinstalling may make it disappear, but the problem is still lurking in there somethere, and it is guaranteed to surface again. Anyways, this is my last reply to them: "Hi, The problem has disappeared on its own - I didn't have to perform the steps of uninstalling and re-installing as you requested. This of course does not mean that the problem is gone. It must still be lurking in there somewhere and may be triggered again in the future by some combination of steps I performed. One clue that may be investigated by your software developers is that I was playing mostly internet radio stations during that time and saw a few "connection timed out" messages after pausing and resuming playing. After that I played my usual music from FLAC files served by my SqueezeCenter. However the flashing still continued, and I saw that "Connection timed out" message a couple of times again after pausing and resuming playing my music files. Maybe there was some thread lurking in the background that was still attempting to make connections to the internet.
