Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] RC (Inguz etc.)
I decided to redo my sweeps (figured since I got the Touch I'd generate another set of correction files), but I ran into a problem I never saw before. When I did the impulseprep on the left and right sweep files it generated the ImpulseResponse wav file but then dropped out. When I looked at the prep.log file it indicated that the distance and timing for the right file were both 0. I opened that sweep file in Audacity and it looks fine, not much different than the left file (which showed valid numbers in the log file). Thank you Guys for all the necessary info. Now I am running Inguz full time. Inguz made me get back to Squeezebox. I bought a Sonos for the excelent Remote Control. But when I ugraded all my gear, with Audio Research and Spendor Speakers, my room acoustics became a mess. Now I can hear the wonderfull Chris Squire's Bass in the MFSL reissue of Yes Album 2010 remaster. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] DAC problem, VTL DAC does not lock !
The coax output on all the SB devices is right on the money voltage wise, no need for any attenuators. The crystals used in most of the SB devices are pretty cheap crystals with fairly wide initial tolerances (well within the official S/PDIF spec though). SOME DACs have a special narrow band PLL which allows for significant jitter reduction, BUT they have a hard time syncing to sample rates which are fairly far away from the official center frequency. Its possible to get a squeezebox which might fall in that category. Such DACs will almost always have a wide setting which will lock onto the further out signal. If your DAC doesn't have the narrow PLL you can ignore the above.
