Will all transports sound the same with the PS Audio Lens? Considering
the transports are not extremely buggy and noisy so that the digital

Glad you rephrased things. Not very good is a completely different
statement than there are better.

I find the Touch eminently listenable as is.

Not sure what version you're running but the web UI doesn't even load
for me in Chrome 10.0.612.1 dev using squeezeboxserver-7.6.0-0.1.31644.

Also, I hid the player panel and it won't come back.

At least I'm 100% in line with them.

I'm still using the filter device hooked up to a EPCOS buffererd
battery supply and a Super TeddyReg.

I've been running/presenting the Touch together with the SBOOSTER
supply
on the biggest DIY fair in Germany in November.

I would still highly recommend that device. It takes the bloat out.
Even my SuperTeddyReg supply was worse without that filter.

Just to mention it: I do not have any commercial relationships to
either
EinsenUndNullen magazine or SBOOSTER.

Cheers

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] What is a Transporter SE?

2010-12-28 Thread gtb75

I just got my new Touch last week (replaced my SB3 connected to my dCS
Delius) and stumbled across this on the Logitech site today:
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/speakers-audio/wireless-music-systems/devices/7934

I wasn't too familiar with the old Transporter... Anybody know what
the differences are - beyond being $500 less expensive?

This appears at the bottom of the page you mention:

The Transporter SE has the exact same technical specification as the
Transporter, and therefore it delivers the same level of sound quality
audiophiles strive for. The only difference between these two models
lies in the access of the system's functions. On the Transporter SE,
many of the functions that were previously accessed by the TransNav™
controller on the front of the unit are now accessed through the
included remote control.

I have no clue what their long term plans are for the product.

Wow - completely missed that at the bottom of the page:) Interesting
that the Transporter is out again... I thought part of the reason it
went away was because the supply of VFD's dried up?

I too have no clue about Logitech's long term plans for Transporters
but I'm afraid it doesn't sound like long term plans to me - sounds
like they've ran out of knobs but realised they have enough bits
(including VFDs I guess) for a 'Second Edition'(?) version.

The unit pictured appears to have a knob.

Yep, but I'm afraid it doesn't Navigate anymore and all operation has
to be done through remote. This could be the reason of 25% cost sink...

I'm surprised by the Second Edition (SE) suffix used for this product
since it confuse with the Swiss Edition (SE) mods who is available in
Switzerland since last May. Ok the goal of this one is not to cost
reduce but much too improve. Smaller country but brighter ideal :-)

SE is usually 'special edition'. My guess is that they had left over
Transporter parts on hand but couldn't source the TransNav mechanism.
So they're selling what they can with minimal additional effort.

The fact that it says many of the functions that were previously

functions) is bound to be misleading.

Don't see how that would make a remote replacement necessary.

What if they don't have the board or chip for the knob to do everything
it did before or the knob no longer has the ability to input IOW you can
turn/Nav to a heading but can't click the knob to make that choice.

Hey, it has the 30 day demo right? Somebody order one and do a review!
