(cable typically rated +/- 3 ohms for example...and a 75 ohm rca connector is basically impossible to construct, no matter what Canare say. -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal... Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] S/PDIF cables should be (a) - >=1.5m or (b) as short as possible?
I have not much input about different digital cables but have one experience. Think i wrote it in this forum once. I had a Philips CD with a digital out my older DAC didnĀ“t like. A dedicated ~0.6m long Hama digital cable gave me droputes from time to time. A cheap 1.5m 100Hz TV antenna cable with these simple ferrits on both ends and even self-soldered plugs worked fine. I still use it to connect my digital TV box to my Transporter. -- Wombat Transporter -> RG142 -> Avantgarde based monoblocks -> Sommer SPK240 -> self-made speakers Wombat's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4113 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84751 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Griffin, Sorry I should have made it clearer. SN says these cables SHOULD be at least 1.5m long. DL says that's wrong - there is no minimum length like that and in fact shorter is better. Anyone have thoughts on Steve Nugent's advice that >=1.5m is good or Dan Lavry's denouncement of Steve's advice? I'm about to buy a cable from Blue Jeans so let the flaming commence! I'd like to be audacious, and claim that it has 2+ 0.2(me) active developers :). I am active focusing on brutefirdrc playback on SBTouch, esp. pcm playback, where the Touch receives room-corrected pcm, and the hard work is done on the server. Full 2-channel drc on my 2-core server eats up about 6% of cpu (96/24 audio), so my server has the potential of sending room-corrected hi-res audio to every listening room at home. 44/16 audio needs about half the cpu. -- mervin_b mervin_b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=42376 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77084 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
