I don't believe that Mr. Lavorgna received or took any money for writing
that blurb but I do believe that by writing that nonsense plus all the
other garbage that regularly flows from his pen (I know that he doesn't
write with a pen but it sounds more poetic than keyboard) he does get
to a live the diehard audiophiles dream. By that I mean access to lots
of cool equipment (at no cost or at a greatly reduced price) and
industry insider status. Do you remember the last time the president or
owner of a high end audio equipment company came to your house to set up
a piece of equipment? No, well neither do I but I bet that Mr. Lavorgna
does.

Right. So your transporter is either ignoring your setting,
synchronizing (poorly) to your disc player, or just running a PLL in
free running, unsynchronized mode. I think you have just proven that
technically inferior (or no change at all) can sound better...

You are taking the transport DAC out of the loop or putting a WORLD
clock in. You can get a $$ single clock to clock all items. Much the
same as the clock in the school office. And if you are old enough at
the hour all the rest of the school clocks jumped at the top of the
hour. Synchronized is the word I am looking for.

'Here's a USB device'
(http://www.audiostream.com/content/audioquest-jitterbug) that's
supposed to benefit your audio when plugged into an unused USB socket!
According to AudioQuest, sonic benefits can be gained by plugging a
Jitterbug into most any unused USB port that's connected to your hi-fi,
even those pesky stray ports that reside on your NAS. Fascinating.
Amazing stuff.

What you'll hear, if you hear what I heard, is greater clarity,
dimensionality, and generally a more natural sound.

The amazing stuff that I really want is not the damn jitterbug but
rather whatever Mr. Michael Lavorgna is taking.

Wondering what digital passthrough relates to in the context of
running the transporter solely as a dac with no external clock fitted.

That is indeed the question. The only ones that would know for sure are
the people who wrote the firmware.
