[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: what do you think of this power supply?
Don't think there will be any problem using it - 5V with plenty of amps. I have two of these enroute, and would be interested in comments on them too. Next step is to figure out what box to put them in and order the DC cable. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: what do you think of this power supply?
Getting the international power you get an additional 1.5 amps, which some feel helps performance, and a better ripple figure 5mv vs 20mv. For $10 the International Power seems nice. Don't know how much the box an associated stuff will run, but if your a good scrounger you may be close to the $40 price. Of course, if you figure in your time, the Elpac is certainly easier/cheaper. -- Machine Machine's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3900 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24311 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Lite Audio DAC-60 thinking about getting one..
How much of a difference is there and how would you describe it. I know the K variety goes for 60%+ more then the standard one and the specs don't seem to be that different. Not sure I understand the difference. -- Machine Machine's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3900 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20789 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Best mod?
I judge a product by the initial results You should also consider the initial cost. When you look at what this product does for you it is a rare bargain. Wifey loved it right out of the box. She used to ask me to put on music but now she helps herself. Even suggested getting another SB. The stock PS is just fine for equipment in this price range. High quality power supplies are quite expensive. The expense is only justified if you want to push performance and have equipment that allows you to realize the gain. I bought a cheapo surplus linear supply and noticed improvement in exactly the areas you mentioned Undefined low end, way to laid back middle and unfocused top. Basically, lacked any refinement in an audiophile sense. It's not like oh, now I'm completely satisfied, but it shows enough potential with the surplus PS that I've ordered a Red Wine modded SB3 and if that works out will be looking for a well designed PS to replace the surplus linear. You may never be satisfied with the sound for critical listening, I don't know, but just the convenience makes this product a worthwhile purchase for anyone that has a stereo and a network. IMO, YMMV, etc. -- Music Machine Music Machine's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1486 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=18491 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Patrick Dixon Wrote: Anyway, the latest nightlies have a gain control that works fine - no resolution loss above -35dB, so it should sound alright. I just looked in both 6.2.1 and 6.5b1. Is that change the latest thinking on the volume control losing bits issue? [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Need Dual Amp inputs?
http://www.sakurasystems.com/products/47selector.html I have no experience with this unit. And never will at those prices. Radio shack has more reasonably priced input selectors. I would not use a simple splitter. Results would depend on the design of the output circuits. Your outputs would be wired together if you did this. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Should we remove support for 44.1/16?
Would guess 99% percent of people buying soundbridge don't want to know about bits. Roku knows their market. If someone cares about sound quality enough to look at what the products really offer they wouldn't be buying soundbridge anyway. 48k is not going to be a problem for them. They just want to make the sale. If it won't do what you need, oh, you should have bought the 2000. More money. If you look at other forums where hifi audio is the topic, Squeezebox is well regarded, while roku is seldom mentioned. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: switching vs. linear - on a scope
Yes, time and amplitude are missing. Apparently it's taken from the 5 volt line feeding the DAC. Would probably be difficult or impossible to see any output variance with a music signal. Since when do audiophiles care about that. ;) Regards -- Music Machine ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: switching vs. linear - on a scope
The SB2 is my favorite toy too! I'm completely pleased with my purchase, and would recommend SB2 to anyone that has a network and a stereo. I think the SMPS included with SB2 is a good choice, adds value, works well. A good linear supply would add too much too the price. For those that want to push performance, and are willing to pay for it, the PS is a logical starting point, (an audiophool no-brainer). topster Wrote: Hi, One thing that hasn't been mentioned (maybe it has and I missed it, but...) is whether the noise generated from the SMPS could be polluting the power lines for OTHER components. It might be interesting to see if there is still an audible difference in changing power supplies if the SMPS is fully isolated from the other components. Just a thought. There may not be any way to completely isolate the switcher. The optical connection would help, but some people don't like those. I plug the SB2 into a power conditioner, the Jon Risch diy design followed by the SQD iso trans. With a surplus linear supply I'm using I notice an improvement from top to bottom. I suppose most people wouldn't notice, or care. If you have upgraded cables, ever treated a cd, used vibration isolation devices, etc. and could hear any difference, then you should try a linear. You're more than half way there. Just have EAC run flac instead of lame. I used to do EAC/lame for portables. Now EAC/flac for squeezebox2. So, now if I need mp3 for the portables I use foobar/lame to convert flac to mp3.
