Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Best reasonably priced DAC

I was VERY skeptical upon first hearing it -- it sounded very digital, and not as resolving as the SB3's analog outs. But then I remembered all of these reports about break-in with the Citypulse DAC, some saying that it requires up to 300 hours to fully settle down. Now, I have no idea what the physical basis for this phenomenon is, but all I can say is that it's very real, at least with this particular piece of equipment. I've left the DAC on pretty much constantly since receiving it, and the difference is absolutely night and day. My system is pretty modest: SB3 w/ Bolder modified Elpac, Citypulse DAC, Creek OBH-12 passive preamp, Charlize amp, Klipsch RB-61 speakers. I'm running Blue Jeans cables (optical to the DAC) and a Monster PowerCenter HTS 2000 for power conditioning. It's shocking how good this sounds. I have received mine as well and I am experiencing exactly the same thing! First: absolutely rubbish, but after 100 hours there is significant improvement. Sound is opening and music is getting more involving, but not yet even near to my ex-cd-player, Arcam CD33. I hope that it will get better and better over the time. -Fkuti -- fkuti fkuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9713 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32336 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

My squeezebox is pretty heavily modified as documented in a thread elsewhere, and the analog output sounds considerably better than the stock SB3. The Citypulse is a significant step better than my modified SB3, so I will offer the suggestion that it is an even bigger improvement over a stock SB3. Of course, I have no double blind tests to prove any of this 8-}. ---Gary Hi! I am thinking on buying a stock SB3 and citypulse DAC. Would it be sonically in same level than a Arcam CD33!? Would the SB3 benefit from power supply upgrade with citypulse. Or would it be even better to do the digital-out mod. questions questions... :-) Kind regards Fkuti -- fkuti fkuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9713 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32336 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Have not heard, but one seller told me that it is more involving that DAC1, more musical. Hope this helps. I might buy this compo (SB3 + citypulse) without demoing it. What is the situation with this now? I own CD33 and thinking to do the same thing. Modded SB3 + DAC.
