Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] External DAC on Transporter: best output option
Dave, I'm in Pompey and up for a trip across to Hayling. My ears are probably past their prime, and I don't do much serious listening nowadays, but I'm up for a challenge. I have transporter myself, coupled to some old Linn kit. Send me a PM and we can maybe sort out a time for the test. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Amplifier for Squeezebox
Sounds cool - do you have any intentions regarding a means of turning it on and off automatically - maybe by the remote or an audio signal level switch? I like my SBs to be able to bring the amps out of standby. A direct wired IR signal interface might offer some interesting options and save the need to dangle an unslightly emitter over the front. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Buying advice - Amp Ceiling Speakers for SB
If you fancy a Tripath amp and are not averse to a bit of soldering (Surface Mount) have a look at the amps on www.41Hz.com. I've built an AMP 3 - cost for the kit 25 euros plus shipping. To this you need to add a case and some basic mounting H/W and a PSU. Using a cheap CB radio PSU from Maplin I found the quality of this amp was at least the equal of a Linn Intek (yeah old I know now), and suspect that with a good PSU it'll get even better. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: FLAC onboard decoding v. server side in SB2
Just in case DrNic's language has confused the non British English users of this forum. The phrase As for FLAC - its the dogs is (I think) meant to be short for ... it's the dog's bollocks - http://english2american.com/dictionary/b.html refers. Of course I maybe wrong here :-), but I agree with the sentiment as interpreted. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Digital Radio audio quality
Natan, I use both, FWIW my feelings are: DAB (Psion Wavefinder/DABBAR) - slightly better quality than AlienBBC, also more reliable and quicker to play (I listen to BBC R3, R4, R7) Alien BBC - listen again - worth it just for that!, however often have problems getting some programmes to play.
