[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] For Sale: SB3 Wireless Black

2007-02-08 Thread milton10

I have decided to put my SB3 Black for sale to anyone who is interested.
It is about 30 days old and in perfect condition. It includes the
remote, manual and original boxes. I have a PowerOne linear power
supply to go with it as well. Asking $260 delivered in the USA.
PayPal only. If it does not sell here, it will go on ebay.

Thanks!

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Best reasonably priced DAC

2007-02-01 Thread milton10

I am looking for a nice DAC that is reasonably priced. I am interested
in finished products and possibly kits (if they are fairly
straigtforward and easy). Any ideas?

Thanks!

Milton

And preferably under $750.00. That seems to be my upper limit.

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Can anyone recommend a tube amp simpatico with SB3

2007-01-25 Thread milton10

I use it with Klipsch Heresy speakers, so I have enough efficiency to
get to pretty loud levels. I like it because it is small (looks cool
having a system with just the Squeezebox and small amplifier) and it
sounds AWESOME - smooth, mellow and rich. I have attached a picture.

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Stupid Newbie Questions

2006-12-24 Thread milton10

If you upgrade the PS and cables the SB comes close to a mid level ($1K)
audiophile CD player, like Quad or Rega. Especially if you play wav
files ripped using EAC software which eliminates jitter and decoding
chores. There are more gains to be had by modifying the SB internally
if you find you need that. For me it is not necessary yet. Other audio
 fish to fry first.

I use an upgrade power supply and it gives me a big improvement. I have
a similar rig as yours with tube (classAB1) integrated and relatively
high sensitivity speakers. The difference with the new power supply is
obvious and audible all across the bandwidth as well as in improved
dynamics and air. The more revealing your system, the more improvement
 you will hear.

The PowerOne linear open frame supplies are excellent and have better
regulation than the Elpac. They are easy to wire up and not too
expensive. The 5volt 3amp version is good for SB. About $45 plus wire,
connector and box. PM me if you need help wiring it.

Invest in some decent cables too if you are looking to hear changes on
this level of subtlety. Anticables.com is a great bargain in high end
cables. They are extremely transparent, and not expensive (really
cheap!) Based on my own experiences comparing them to daddybigbucks
cables, I think the wild testimonials on their website are NOT all
 hype. You won't be sorry!

Use the Sophia's volume control instead of the SB VC to max out the
SB's S/N. I read that TNT audio review of your Sophia, it is a very
nice piece! :) SB is up to it.
 Merry Christmas
 Rich

Rich,

Thanks for the reply. I may have to take you up on your offer on
wiring the PowerOne Supply. By the way, are you talking about the
HB5-3/OVP-A? I just looked up their site and I just want to make sure
that I get the right one.

I just took a look at Anticables.com. Very impressive looking stuff.
When you say upgrade cables, are you talking about speaker cables or
interconnects? Right now I am using Audioquest Cooperheads for my
interconnects, but just standard 12 gauge Monster for my speaker
cables.

One last thing. Are you using the analog out on the SB or the digital
out? I have heard on this forum that the analog out sound veiled and
rolled off on both extremes of the frequency spectrum. I only have the
ability to use the analog out.
