If I was you (living in the States) I would have added a very nice
Sherwood Newcastle in my list. ;)

@Themis: why do you like the Sherwood? Because of the Trinnov eq?

No. Mainly because of the carefully-made analog stage. ;)

Yes, the AIR Studios are associated with George Martin.

As for the OP, this is smoke and mirrors and just a means to increase
the unit price and make AIR Studios some licensing bucks. Not the same
as paying for a Disney or NFL branded AVR, but almost.

IMO, spend your money on buying a high current AVR (read stay away from
most big name Japanese units).

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] AIR Studios?

2009-11-03 Thread jmourik

Just wondering if y'all have heard about this place? I was looking at
the Pioneer sc-27/25 and they have AIR Studios Monitor Sound Tuning
Certification. Is that something I should be interested in when looking
at AVRs?

Got to this when reading about the Transporter going for $1350 now at
some places. Very interesting, but then I figured I still need to
upgrade my oldy Denon AVR-4800, which is probably a higher priority. And
it would cost about the same as a Transporter... But I do want good
audio performance out of my new AVR. That's when I bumped into that
Pioneer.

Any suggestions for good sounding AVRs are welcomed!

2009-11-03 Thread DCtoDaylight

I took a look at their website, and frankly it sounds like a bit of
fluff to me

For example, from Technical - Pioneer: Stereo must sound excellent
and multi-channel should be just as good. This requires identical,
independent, discrete power amps for each channel.

It looks like they're trying to copy the THX certification idea, but I
don't see any evidence of the technical, electrical specifications that
THX requires products to achieve

Someone paid someone some money for the rights to use their name.

SLIGHTLY more legitimate than a Krusty Brand Seal of Approval

Don't get me wrong, I think the world of George Martin's contributions
to music, but this is surely not in the top quartile of those...

As is the title of his own book, All You Need Is Ears...

AIR Studios -- Are they the ones who made Sexy Boy in 9 different
remixes, all of which kinda sucked (IMHO)?

Honestly, I can't even get their website to work on a new Mac. I
wouldn't put too much stock in their certification. Never seen it on
anything I've worked with.
