Won't work. I have over used that. Whenever she asked how much things
costs I say oh, a couple of quid. She doesn't believe me, even if the
item was ;-(

Dedicated amp. Not sure I could go with that. having to change the SB
input to the main amp to the headphone amp all the time. The cables and
the sockets would get damaged over time.

Unless I keep the digital coax in the DAC and the standard outs to
the headphone amp? Would that work?

The amplifier in your main rig should have a record output, which you
can use as input to the headphone amplifier.

A - good idea. I'll give that a try. As you can tell. Never thought
of that. ;-)

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Advice please hi-fi geeks

2007-10-06 Thread mikeruss

Hi all

I would love a pair of headphones - probably Grado - but my stereo
probably like most of you is in front of the sofa.

The issue is getting the headphones to the amp/source. I have looked at
wireless but I'm not keen, mixed reports etc. So... any ideas how I can
get a feed close to my sofa? Do I need to look at extension cables for
the headphones? If so I've not seen any decent extension cables.

That is a fine $20 solution.
For a $300 solution, get another SqueezeBox :-)

2007-10-06 Thread tomjtx

You will find a lot of info at head-fi.

One thing you should look into is a headphone amp. The headphone outs
in most amp/ preamps and the SB3 are not going to compare well with a
dedicated headphone amp.
The good news is that there are some great amps that won't break the
bank.

I got a portable Corda Move from Jan Meier in Germany. I use it in the
bedroom setup with the SB3 and my Ipod 160gig Classic when I travel. It
is small and has a usb DAC included.
It is a killer amp at 240.00 delivered from Germany.

I also bought a Meier Corda Cantate, 540.00,
for the Transporter rig.

I have listened to both amps with my AKG701's and they are a great
match for this phone.
People at head fi say the Mier amps do well with Grados as well.

The SB3 Corda MoveAKG701 in my bedroom is keping me up
nights...that is my only compaint :-)

Now if I had my way I would do that. can you imagine what my missus
would say if she walked in to see the original sb by the stereo and
another by the sofa.
