[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Linear psu question (another!)
Thanks to Heuer's article a few months ago, I built my own linear PSU and have been extremely pleased with the results. I used a Power One HB5-3 (5V, 3A) PSU with over voltage protection and voltage sensing. I bought two of these PSU's and have just completed my 'Mark II' PSU, so my Mark I is now for sale - you can see it at: www.jrobb.plus.com/LinearPSU-5V3A It will come with a standard mains lead and it has been internally fused at 250mA (as recommended). It is fully tested - has been running my Squeezebox3 for the last 4 months. It is wired to run at 240v, but is adjustable. I am looking for £50 + £10 pp - £60 to the UK. The first buyer who responds to my email address (just click on my username at the top of this post) will secure the PSU. UK only buyers, please. Same here, I an noob number 2 :) Also, do I need to set dip switches to set power output and input? Do I need to solder in the power cable? -- agentsmith agentsmith's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1838 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24314 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

The Lambda PSU is complete and ready to go. You will need to find a box to put it in (RS sell these), solder up two wires to the 5v output and a plug and solder the mains cable on. For safety you might want to consider a 250ma in line fuse. The following thread has most of the details of how to do it: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=73008#post73008 -- Heuer Heuer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2543 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24314 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

You would be better off buying one of these from RS: Part no:173-1604 http://tinyurl.com/nr9ul -- Heuer Heuer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2543 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24314 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Heuer Wrote: You would be better off buying one of these from RS: Part no:173-1604 I would love to try this PS out. But I am a complete electronics dummy. This box seems to be a DIY type job, how much soldering/adjusting do I have to do? Has anyone tried this box with the SB2/3? -- agentsmith agentsmith's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1838 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24314 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Your reguator will need to dissipate about 16W with that setup. The transformer's voltage is way too high. Find one with 6V secondaries, or 5V if you use a LDO vreg. Also, that PS is not designed well. It needs reverse current protection diodes and a cap from adjust to ground to reduce noise. -- drs drs's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3536 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24314 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
