Pale Blue Ego Wrote: I recently sold a sealed MFSL U2 - Joshua Tree on eBay for $250! Paid for one of my SB3s with the proceeds. I might decide to part with one of my MFSL The Wall sets. Both are used, though and won't bring as much as sealed. I agree that the MFSL sound quality really shines through on the Squeezeboxes. Well good for you, but pity the guy who bought it :) If only he knew that ripping it to an SB may sound even better then the CD. -- agentsmith agentsmith's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1838 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21401 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Yeah DCC is awesome as well...I just got Montrose S/T DCC and it is fantastic. If you all see a copy of Muddy Waters Folk Singer MFSL or Jimmy Reed Carnegie Hall MFSL I would recommend you pick em up...two of the best overall (sound and performance) traditional blues albums you will find... -hal -- hal9000 hal9000's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=983 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21401 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

I agree the MFSL releases are outstanding. However, Steve Hoffman's DCC releases are a notch above, in my opinion. They are going to sound different because MFSL remasters their own stuff with propietary equipment. -- crooner Squeezebox 3 Lite Audio DAC60 tube DAC Pioneer SX-1980 Vandersteen 2Ce Signature Vandersteen 2W crooner's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3379 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21401 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

hal9000 Wrote: Well I'm addicted to MFSL...been a fan for 10+ years but playing FLAC rips of these cd's through my SB2 has increased my respect for these masters ten fold ... Interesting. I found that my MFSL cd's didn't improve as much as other cd's when streamed as FLAC. MFSL sounded great on my dvd player, car stereo, as well as the SB now. Whereas The Flaming Lips, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (standard disc) sounded TERRIBLE on the dvd player, but MUCH improved when streamed as FLAC. FLAC helped more with jittery sounding (if there's such a term) cd's than brilliant recordings, MFSL or not, IMHO. -- Skunk Skunk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2685 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21401 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

I agree. Ironically, one of the basic premises of using gold in their CDs was to reduce data interpolation by the transport because of the greater stability of the gold substrate material. With the SB this goal has finally been realized. A rip using EAC of my MFSL discs have been a revelation for me. Tons of hidden information I have discovered on many recordings. Take Queen's The Game. This MFSL remaster sounded dark, unidimensional with limited resolution on my previous CD players. With the SB3 and my new DAC it's a completely different recording. It has been reborn! Lots of detail, to the point of hearing chatter, stomping and things moving around in the studio. Cymbals sound incredibly real. Yes, definitely, the MFSL Ultradiscs are well worth ripping and enjoying on your Squeezeboxes!!! -- crooner Squeezebox 3 Lite Audio DAC60 tube DAC Pioneer SX-1980 Vandersteen 2Ce Signature Vandersteen 2W crooner's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3379 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21401 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
