Not mine (it's an early one that I never got round to upgrading). It
has a direct mode, but volume control for instance is still done in the
digital domain (as far as I'm aware), so some A-D D-A conversion
happens.

The TP's dual screens and ability to use without a remote from the front
panel are great, plus if you want true 88.2khz and 96Khz playback, you
need the TP.

I was looking for that forum but didn't notice it. Can a mod move this
for me?

Thanks

you might want to move this to the Audiophile sub-forum.

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter - Is it worth it?

2008-04-10 Thread MacMini

I think that the DAC is the most important difference between the SB3
and the transporter. So when you already use an excellent external DAC,
the difference will be much smaller than for others who buy a
transporter instead of a SB3.

Of course there are other advantages: faster processor, better prower
supply, etc. So it's up to you to decide, if this is enough additional
value for the extra money.

But you know, we audiophiles always pay a lot for these minor
differences.

Well... apart from the DAC, I believe the handling of the clock signals
by its crystal oscillators makes quite a difference. I find the
transporter a notch up from your tag combo

This may be so, but I have no intentions of replacing the Tag for some
time. And considering it's a digital pre-amp, it's DACs will be used
however I choose to connect. I'm starting to think I may just stick
with the SB3 for now.
