[aur-general] qt4 replaces qt

2013-02-27 Thread Andrea Scarpino
Hi all,
a new qt4 package has hit [testing] and will replace the current qt package.

qt4 doesn't provide 'qt'; you will need to rebuild EVERY package installed
from AUR and replace qt with qt4 in the depends array.
Also, I suggest to every maintainer in AUR to remove qt from the depends()
array when there's qtwebkit or any package that needs qt: if you do that, this
will require no rebuild as we updated every package in the official
repositories to use qt4.

Also, we ship the Qt 5.x series in [testing]. Qt 5.x is more modular than 4.x.
This allow us to have these Qt 5.x packages:
* qt5-base
* qt5-declarative
* qt5-graphicaleffects
* qt5-imageformats
* qt5-jsbackend
* qt5-multimedia
* qt5-quick1
* qt5-script
* qt5-svg
* qt5-tools
* qt5-translations
* qt5-webkit
* qt5-xmlpatterns

Generally you only need qt5-base. But, if you are a Qt developer or you want a
full installation you can install the whole 'qt' group.

When you install both qt5-base and qt4, qmake will refers to the 5.x version.
To 'force' Qt 4.x, you can use the qmake4 symlink. There's also moc-qt4, uic-
qt4 and rcc-qt4. We provide these symlinks as they are used by cmake and by
the configure scripts to locate qt4.

[aur-general] Some remove requests

2013-02-27 Thread Jorge Barroso
Hello, here there are some packages that should be removed:

· gclient-svn[1]: Superseded by depot_tools-svn
· gstreamer0.10-pitfdll[2]: Outdated and death project, fails installing.
· opera-beta[3]: The package is orphaned and outdated, and their contributor
(ruario) has another package who seperseds it (opera-next)
· gerix-wifi-cracker-ng[4]: Orphaned, fails compiling and looks like is a death
project aswell...
· phctool-svn[5]: Years aoutdated. Doesn't work because it seems to be an
abandoned personal project
· gnome-pulse-applet[6]: Superseded by gnome native Advanced volume mixer and
death since 2010
· virtualbox-beta-bin[7]: Nowadays there are not virtualbox betas. The last
stable virtualbox is 4.2.8 and last beta was for 4.2
· cups-usblp[8]: Out of date and superseded by common cups in extra repository
· gnome-shell-extension-noa11y[9]: Out of date, and the official gnome
extensions page got one of those (superseded)

Can this (replace all qt with qt4) be done automatically by some script

This should probably be done for all package that links to qt

After testing the current kde PKGBUILD's (by felixonmars), it is clear
that any package that links to qt need to change their PKGBUILD if the

[aur-general] AUR Maintenance

2013-02-27 Thread Connor Behan
Some of you may remember the lost comments fiasco of 2010. When this
happened, a file on sigurd was created aur-20100205-1859.sql.fixed2.xz
with AUR comments that had been lost. I volunteered (on the mailin
list) to help manually restore them to the AUR [1]. Since I did not
know SQL or how to speak the languages that were causing problems, my
offer was laughed off as enthusiasm that wasn't helpful.

This hasn't really changed. My help at this point would still probably
be a bit useless. But that doesn't mean I don't still think about one
day having a go at it. The zipped sql file was on sigurd as recently as
a few months ago. But since the move to nymeria, I can't find it
anymore. I was stupid enough not to make a backup so can someone with
access please put this on nymeria? Thank-you.
