[aur-general] Deletion Request

2011-08-07 Thread gadget3000
Hi everyone,
I'm new here but I've been using Arch for about 1.5 years now.

lib32-libv4l (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=20859) is in the AUR
but it's now provided by multilib/lib32-v4l-utils. The previous owner left a
notice in the comments and orphaned the package.

[aur-general] Dare I say it: AUR Cleanup Day

2011-08-14 Thread gadget3000
Hi aur-general,
With bug squashing day just around the corner and the recent mass orphaning
of a lot of out of date packages, it seems like as good a time as any to
start the discussion of the possibility of an AUR Cleanup Day 2011. It was
around September last year I believe?
Thoughts?

Re: [aur-general] Flash 10.1 and kernel26 packages

2011-08-15 Thread gadget3000
By the looks of it both flashplugins are used by devs for testing their
flash apps on older versions of flash. Neither are considered popular but
both have a use so I vote that they should stay.

As for the kernel26 packages I don't know how it worked in the past with
kernel24 packages but I think a month after the movement of linux from
testing to core seems a reasonable amount of time before deleting them.
Ultimately it's up to the TU's though.

Lastly, what is the 'policy' around old games and putting a link to the

qtiplot-newest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=47810) simply

uqm-new (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=51672) has similar
intentions.
libmowgli-new (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=47375) does the

libdrm-newest https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22973 does the same
thing and is actively maintained.
libksba-latest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=50960) did the
same thing but "Libksba 1.2 is now in [Extra]. This package is no longer
required." and has subsequently been orphaned.
tremulous-updated (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=21426) does/did
the same thing (the tremelous project hasn't been updated since 2009).
libdvdnav-new (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=17355) does/did the
same thing (the project hasn't been updated since 2008).
telepathy-glib-newest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=50140) also
does this. It is currently orphaned. The submitter says in the comments:
"This package will be needed until telepathy-glib on extra is updated to
0.15.1."
lyx-newest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=48936) looks like it
does the same thing but has changed a few couple flags in the process.

I'll edit the original duplicates list once these packages have been

Ah, I thought it was 20 votes but with a bit of wiki searching that was
apparently an old minimum. I usually quote the votes because "Votes are an
indicator of package interest or usage." (Source:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Community#Minimum_Vote_Requirement). I
guess the key word in that sentence is indicator!

Do any pages of definitive rules/guidelines exist?

Re: [aur-general] aurdupes 0.6 released

2011-08-29 Thread gadget3000
*Packages created to update others:*
haskell-xmpp-latest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=32418) was
created to update haskell-xmpp (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=30218) more quickly. The
maintainer is happy for it to be deleted, as stated in the comments.
hdate-applet-new (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=42660) was
created to update hdate-applet (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=4353) more quickly (I presume). It
currently has no votes or maintainer.
hspell-latest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=44608) presumably
had similar intentions for hspell [extra]. It currently has no votes or
maintainer.
pyblosxom-new (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=35982) presumably
had similar intentions for pyblosxom (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=17253) and is maintained by
an inactive maintainer so it has old dependencies that haven't worked since
at least Oct 2010.
stardict-ncce-ce-new (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=40850) I
think was created to fix the source links of stardict-ncce-ce (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19437) after the project was
removed from sourceforge. It currently has no maintainer or votes and
stardict-ncce-ce is also orphaned.
stardict-ncce-ec-new (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=40851) did
the same thing for stardict-ncce-ec (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19438). It also is orphaned and
has no votes and stardict-ncce-ec is also orphaned.

*Packages created for other reasons:*
idjc-latest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=35076) is poorly
named and should be called idjc-git
lazarus-latest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=26708) is poorly
named and should be called lazarus-svn, which already exists (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=18729) but is orphaned.
reciteword-new (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=41925) was created
to fix the PKGBUILD of pyblosxom (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=17253), which is currently
orphaned.
spideroak-latest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=47096) is poorly
named and should be called spideroak-beta. It is actively maintained.
xf86-video-intel-newest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22968) is
poorly named and should probably be called xf86-video-intel-alpha. I'm not
sure what is the norm around alpha packages so please let me know what
happens with this one.
yaffs2utils-latest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=46674) is
poorly named and should be called yaffs2utils-snapshot but it's maintained
by someone with an @archlinux email address so I think I'm mistaken on this
one. Let me know what you think.

*Awaiting maintainer responses:*
ipset-new (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=49724)
john-latest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=38152)
josm-latest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=13569)
metslib-newest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=43739)

And that's the current, whole list processed!

python2-pylast (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=45119)
facebook-google-sync (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=34330) is a
dead project that no longer functions due to facebook updates. It's a sh &
curl script that could potentially be rewritten. The script is included in
the src archive.

[aur-general] VCS Packages

2011-09-01 Thread gadget3000
*Dead repo due to dead project. I can't find any mirrors:*
qutim-protocol-icq-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=33004).
ICQ support is now built into qutim anyway (http://qutim.org/)
omvviewer-artwork-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=24456). It
is now built into omvviewer anyway (
http://git.byteme.org.uk/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=snowglobe.git;a=summary)
bash-view-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=34592)

*Repo has moved:*
mcabber-module-ping-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=31820)
had moved to mercurial but is now included in mcabber-hg (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=26873) anyway
All mcabber-module-*-git packages have moved to mercurial. Some may also be
built into mcabber-hg now as well.
pastebin-cli-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=46621) now uses
svn. pastebin-cli-svn does not yet exist so I've left a comment on the
package.
thunar-actions-plugin-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=30184)
now uses svn. thunar-actions-plugin-svn does not yet exist.
lingo-dictionary-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=49590) now
uses bzr and has been replaced by lingo-dictionary-bzr (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=49764)
python-commons-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=47324) now
uses svn. python-commons-svn does not exist yet.

*Unmaintained repos:*
eee-control-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=25437). The
PKGBUILD uses a dead repo but there is a mirror here (
https://github.com/amorozov/eee-control), though upstream hasn't been
updated since 2009 (Is this long enough to wait before considering it as
unmaintained?). No votes or maintainer. eee-control (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22076) still exists.

*Other requests:*
caw (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=28856) is the same as caw-git
(https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=29425). Upstream is no longer in
development.

*Dead repo due to dead project. I can't find any mirrors:*
kidentd-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=37137)
wolman-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=18867)

*Repo has moved:*
pyjavascriptcore-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=36133) has
been replaced by pyjavascriptcore-bzr (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=34295)
pidgin-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=26671). This didn't
use an official repo, instead it used a clone. Officially pidgin uses
monotone (http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/UsingPidginMonotone). I'm not sure
if this is ok practice. If it is then let me know and I'll just update
_gitroot (http://gitorious.org/pidgin-clone).

*(Just for reference). Repo has moved. Needs a replacement package
before merging/deletion:*
All mcabber-module-*-git packages have moved to mercurial. Some may also
be built into mcabber-hg now as well.
pastebin-cli-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=46621) now

fripp-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=26436)

longer exists and was replaced by kompas (Source:
http://mosra.cz/blog/article.php?a=14-map2x-is-dead-long-live-kompas-multiplatform-navigation-software).
All replacement packages exist (

pywc-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=30978)
synaptics-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=15983)

phasex-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=26644). It has been

*Repo has moved:*
pyjavascriptcore-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=36133) has

all checks out fine then let me know and I'll just update _gitroot (

*Unmaintained repos:*
raktpdf-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=36386). Hasn't been
updated since 2008 (http://git.code-monkey.de/?p=raktpdf.git;a=summary). The
repo also refuses a connection to clone for me.

omvviewer-git(https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=24455). All
omvviewer no longer exists and was replaced by snowglobe (Source:
http://omvviewer.byteme.org.uk/index.php/2010/05/27/package-updates/).
snowglobe-git exists (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=38485).

libetc-experimental-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=37676).
Repo is dead as well. libetc still exists (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=15943). rewritefs (mentioned in
the comments) is only an unofficial replacement.

*Other requests:*
kumodule-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=41413). Delete at
maintainers request in comments. It depends on kernel26 and the repo no
longer exists.

Not too sure on this one. I think it's just badly named. gegl-git-master (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=46910). gegl-git exists (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=26782). It also uses a shortened
URL which leads to a small dropbox file called babl-git-master.tar.bz2 which
I haven't opened.

gimp-git-master (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=46909) same as
above. Also has a shortened URL that leads to a file from the same dropbox
account and has the same maintainer.

*(Just for reference). Repo has moved. Needs a replacement package before

It's been a week since I tried to get in contact with some of these
maintainers and some packages have been deleted since, so here is the final
aurdupes -A list.

*Packages created to update others:*
stardict-ncce-ce-new (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=40850) I
think was created to fix the source links of stardict-ncce-ce (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19437) after the project was
removed from sourceforge. It currently has no maintainer or votes and
stardict-ncce-ce is also orphaned.

stardict-ncce-ec-new (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=40851) did
the same thing for stardict-ncce-ec (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19438). It also is orphaned and
has no votes and stardict-ncce-ec is also orphaned.

*Packages created for other reasons:*
idjc-latest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=35076) is poorly
named and should be called idjc-git
spideroak-latest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=47096) is poorly
named and should be called spideroak-beta. It is actively maintained.
xf86-video-intel-newest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22968) is
poorly named and should probably be called xf86-video-intel-alpha. I'm not
sure what is the norm around alpha packages so please let me know what
happens with this one.
yaffs2utils-latest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=46674) is
poorly named and should be called yaffs2utils-snapshot but it's maintained
by someone with an @archlinux email address so I think I'm mistaken on this
one. Let me know what you think.
josm-latest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=13569) is poorly
named and should be called something like josm-devel
metslib-newest (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=43739). I'm not
sure why this was created because the maintainer of metslib-newest and
metslib is the same. Metslib-newest is more up to date than metslib though.

I don't have any unmaintained packages to give you so I'll say why not have
a go with with any out of date orphans in the AUR? Use the advanced search
tools and set 'Out of Date' to flagged and click orphans.

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=13017) package. I left a comment a
month ago and emailed the maintainer a week ago and I'm yet to receive a
response. The maintainers last package update was late February 2011.

Thanks

I wouldd like to adopt a few of the packages that you are orphaning. They
are:
frozensynapse https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=52758
steelstorm https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=41363
spacechem https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=50886
ut2004-cbp https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=53080
ut2004-megapack https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=53081

I already own a number of the humble bundle packages in the AUR.
I also play ut2004 often.

rescuetime-client (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=41515) is a
duplicate of rescuetime (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=36999).
It has no maintainer and only 1 vote.

aurdupes is good place to start because it lists packages that already
exist in repos, among other things.

During my AUR cleaning over summer I made a script to help me find packages
that could be deleted. It's very buggy and incomplete but I've attached it
for you or anyone else to use or build upon.

[aur-general] XFlux Ownership

2013-04-09 Thread gadget3000
Hi,

I'm the previous maintainer of the xflux package (
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xflux/).
Over the past 24 hours someone else has become the maintainer of the
package but I'm confused as to how because I never gave up "ownership" of
it.
Before I go on I just want to clarify that I'm not so bothered about
getting the package back so much as understanding how someone else now
maintains the package without my knowledge (I only found out after doing a
system, update an seeing that that package got updated even though I didn't
update the version number).

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the only way a maintainer can be
forced to give up a package is if someone sends an email to the maintainer,
asking them to update the package and the maintainer does not respond
(either by email or by updating the package). I received an email yesterday
(8th March) asking me to update the package, because it didn't build since
the makepkg update, and I updated the package. Even if I hadn't updated it,
it had been less than 24 hours since I even got the message so I don't
understand why someone else has now taken over the package.

So my question is does anyone know how I lost the package?

Thanks,
Gadget3000

Ok thanks. Just for the record that was one of the things I fixed when I
updated the package, but oh well.

I assumed you were a user of the package and you couldn't get it to build
so I just updated the package so you could build it and thought nothing of
it.
I'm not great at replying to emails so my bad I guess :)
