Hi all, So I updated my packages and had other people also update theirs so that pythia8 and xrootd-abi0 are now completely redundant. I submitted requests for deletion a while ago and I am just writing to confirm that they can be safely removed. No packages have them as dependencies and I have even overprovisioned with 'provide' statements in the now correct pythia and xrootd packages. Thanks. Regards, Konstantin

Unfortunately there are some people who regularly flag a package as out-of-date just because they think there are bugs in the PKGBUILD and they are just waiting for a new version of the PKGBUILD - so they misuse it as their personal bug tracker - or in this case because they probably think that a package is too old for their taste. I do have a question though. What if it's an old multiplayer only project? I nobody plays it, nobody will want to use it. I guess, if the servers aren't accessible anymore then this game can be considered as unusable anymore. So I guess it won't work anymore except if there's also a single player mode. One other thing. The votes are meant for having a package moved to [community] and not for having it kept in AUR. The minimum of required votes are 10 as far as I know. So a package with 7 votes is not that far away from that. Heiko

I guess the key word in that sentence is indicator! Do any pages of definitive rules/guidelines exist? I think there are several people who install and use a package from AUR without caring about the votes. And there are a lot of not so well known packages. If a package is not well known it doesn't mean it's bad or not necessary or the like. On the other hand there have been packages which I had installed and didn't vote for for some reasons. Of course, there can be some very rare cases in which the votes can be an additional indicator for interest. But generally votes should only be seen as what they are meant for, for moving packages to [community]. Heiko

[aur-general] Deletion requests: libiconv and nepomuk-playground-svn
Hi, Please delete libiconv and nepomuk-playground-svn entried from the AUR. Regarding libiconv: the files and functionalities it provided are now part of glibc. Having a package that conflicts with glibc does not make sense. Regarding nepomuk-playground-svn: the code moved to KDE's new git repository and was renamed at the same time. A new PKGBUILD could easily be created, but this fulfills no purpose any more. Cheers, mutlu
