There is a separate mailing list for such discussions, which is
automatically filled with a request if one uses the 'File Request' link.
No reason to clutter aur-general with discussions about package deletion
anymore.

On AUR 3 which will be "overwritten" with AUR 4? Yes.

The first one is also on AUR 4 and I added a deletion request at the
correct place (via web interface):

Howdy,

It's time for my fall house-cleaning, and I would like to request the
removal of python2-sentry [1] and python2-httpbin-git [2]. As per the
Python package guidelines [3], these should never have been named with
the python2- prefix as they are application packages (not libraries).

I have had the corrected versions of these uploaded for quite some time,
and thanks in part to my forgetfulness, I believe that the significant
number of months that have since passed should be ample time for anyone
who may have had these installed to migrate to the new versions.

imwheel wan not meant to be removed, I included the link for
convenience. No Idea why there's a newline after the colon:

>> https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/imwheel-enchanced/ - the diff is
>> gone, w/o it it's a plain imwheel:

In my next e-mails I'll use bulletpoints to avoid confusion and will
try not to include urls of packages that are not meant to be merged or
removed:

* https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/foobar - the diff is gone, w/o it
it's a plain foo

Thanks,
Karol

[aur-general] Removal requests

2013-06-25 Thread Jakub Klinkovský
Please delete these packages:
upstream gone:
  https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rhythmbox-folderview-git/
  https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/wgetpkg-git/
  https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ourico-hg/
  https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/skvm-hg/

old versions of blender, I think both are useless
  https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/blender2.5a2/
  https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/blender2.4-svn/

Merge:
according to comment, freestyle is now integrated into blender, so
blender-freestyle-svn should be merged into blender-svn
  https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/blender-freestyle-svn
  https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/blender-svn/

opentxs is identical to open-transactions, the latter seems maintained and is
properly named, so I suggest removing the former:
  https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/opentxs/
  https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/open-transactions

So, I have given all maintainers 2 weeks to respond. Here's the status:

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dmenu-hg-config/ Its maintainer has created
a new package, please merge with
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dmenu-config-git/
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dmenu-hg-xdg/ Its maintainer didn't respond,
please delete this package
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/9base-hg/ Its maintainer didn't respond,
please merge with https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/9base-git/
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/sic-hg/ Its maintainer wants me to be the
new maintainer, please merge with https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/sic-git/
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/slock-hg/ The maintainer is a TU and already
took care of it
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/sprop-hg/ Its old maintainer wants me to be
the new maintainer, please merge with
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/sprop-git/
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/surf-hg/ Its maintainer didn't respond,
please merge with https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/surf-git/

urm... wait. did that even make sense?
so, there are the typical 10 kind of people. those following upstream
and not (or at the brink) using the aur who know it's been git for a
while. and then, those who first found the stuff in aur and not
looking upstream if their packages were okay and then asked questions
about bugs and limitations. I'm writing so many words I hope you're
fine with my apology it's not my intention to waste your time.

aww, fuck it.

the switch to git has been well advertised by upstream. it came up

[aur-general] [removal requests] suckless packages which are deprecated due to their switch from hg to git

2013-03-04 Thread Uli Armbruster
Hi

The following packages don't build anymore because they are created for hg,
which doesn't exist anymore:

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dmenu-hg-config/ and
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dmenu-hg-xdg/, please delete, it makes more
sense to ask for inclusion of those patches in
http://tools.suckless.org/dmenu/patches/ (my opinion). But I could also post a
comment for those two packages and tell the maintainers to change their
packages so they use git. I'd do it, but don't want to maintain such packages.

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/9base-hg/, please merge with
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/9base-git/
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/sic-hg/, please merge with
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/sic-git/
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/slock-hg/, please merge with
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/slock-git/

such, I would rather focus maintaining stable releases. Thank you.

Hi,

Can you remove these 2 packages?

package: cobxref
url: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=39026
reason: renamed to cobxref-svn (I wrongly named it at package creation).

package: ktsuss
url: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=13112
reason: upstream dev has moved to svn so I've created ktsuss-svn as replacement.

Thanks

2011-09-13 Thread Alexander Rødseth
Hi,

I got no confirmation for the other packages, could these be deleted?

A project with a different name has taken over for aldrin, so I can't
imagine that these packages will be needed by anyone:
  aldrin: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=16330
  aldrin-hg: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=23192

These does not currently compile, and it does not seem like they will
for the near future (and I orphaned them in the first place):
   ccons: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=49443
   raincat: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=33509

This project has switched to git, and is not likely to switch back to svn:
  krita-svn: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=25640

It seg faults if you don't provide an argument, it works fine if you do.

ie:

# motor /dev/tty7

Btw, I don't have any interest in this package, I just yanked it out of
cower and built it to prove a point:)

One man's unmaintained does not mean its worthless to another.

It can be hard to judge when an application is broken or not, though,
as that can depend on the version of the compiler and which patches
are applied.
But, I get your point. If a package can be installed and ran on a
current version of Arch, it's not broken, and might be worth keeping.

Hi,

Please remove the following AUR packages:

aldrin and aldrin-hg (not maintained, dead homepage)
 aldrin: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=16330
 aldrin-hg: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=23192

ccons (does not compile, actively developed, but no new release for 2
years):
   https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=49443

raincat (does not compile, no longer maintained):
 https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=33509

cheesetracker (no longer maintained):
   https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=2743

krita-svn (they have switched to git):
 https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=25640

motor (no longer maintained):
   https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=385

tiled (the java version of tiled, no longer maintained):
 tiled: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22928

Also, I would suggest renaming "tiled-qt" to just "tiled":
 tiled-qt: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=30636

fxsudoku

- Dead project, dead source link. Mirrors exist but it only has 2 votes, no
maintainer and the PKGBUILD hasn't been updated since 2006.

Lastly, what is the 'policy' around old games and putting a link to the
actual game data? Some people would class it as abandonware but if it is
still sold then surely it isn't abandonware and is just piracy.
For example hmm2 (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=33015), doom2 (

the rar-ed game data at oldgames.ru.
