[aur-general] Away for a bit due to covid related limitations

2020-10-19 Thread Andrzej Giniewicz via aur-general
Hi all,

I have to declare away time, for the first time since I've started TU
duties. Unfortunately I'm stuck with my work computer for now (Windows
only) and my Arch dev box is at another physical address - which I
have limited access due to the epidemic situation in Poland right now.
I've seen few out of date notifications for my community packages, but
I cannot update them right now, so if someone could update them in my
place for now it would be great. I hope to be back to maintaining my
packages soon.

I cannot sign this message either unfortunately.

Cheers and stay healthy everybody,
Andrzej Giniewicz

Hey folks,

I'm on a pretty awful laptop + internet right now and unable to attend
to TU duties until end of the month.
I'll note that I'm unable to even load https://aur.archlinux.org -- it
seems to hang at the TLSv1.3 handshake on my 4G (tethered or not).
This has been the case since forever but it's now an issue. I
initially thought it was just down. Then thought it was on my side but
the rest of the archlinux domains work fine.
Any idea what could cause this?

As mentioned elsewhere in the thread, compiling != working.

I bet that a fair portion of testing the functionality of a given
package could be automated minus needing to write what defines
acceptance for a given package.

I doubt that you could reliably automate functionality testing for all
packages, but quite a few...

i might move to such system over time but now i have no time to do the testing

Personally I think that your tool to automatically generate the updated
packages is great and very handy. On the other side, I'm not willing to
trust a package that has been generated automatically without any sort
of control to be installed on my system (and I think I'm not the only
one). The wrong thing IMHO is to automatically push the new package to
the repo without any real test and check ("it builds" is not an answer).

I'm not a TU, but I think your tools could be used to prepare the new
updated packages in a local pool, ready to be tested and checked and
then *manually* fetched to the repo only if everything is fine.

Automating like this is very bad practice. I believe a maintainer's
job is to ensure that a package works before making it accessible to
everyone. Of course sometimes we're guilty of assuming stuff "should
probably just work" but let's not automate that attitude.

Otherwise it's OK if you push these to a testing repo me thinks. But
to do justice after you return you should check them one by one :P
Also you can do this on a case-by-case basis depending on how often
things are likely to break. Yet I think just auto building is fine but
not auto pushing.

Compiling != Working, so I think it is a good practice for a maintainer
to test packages before uploading them.

In some case this could be difficult to do (eg massive rebuild for a
libname change) and in these cases it is ok to "blindly" push package on
the basis that is compile and test it later. In any case, I would expect
that a package is minimally tested before it goes to the repos.

So you're blindly signing and pushing packages based on the fact that
they compile?

Hi, everyone!

I will celebrate New Year's Eve in Berlin this year (or should I say
next year?) and will then go skiing in Austria.

Two of my packages (mixxx and privoxy) are outdated and I don't have
enough time to update these now. Can someone take care of these, please?

Cheers,
Lukas

2011-11-11 Thread Ronald van Haren
Hi all,

I'm on vacation for the next three weeks (starting from now + a few hours).

Perhaps one of you guys (devs/TUs) can take care of some things:
- move dhcpcd to [core] when it has the required i686 signoffs
- upgrade emesene to some unofficial version they have around
(microsoft changed the server backend and the current version in the
repos can't connect to the msn server)

Thanks, that should be all. The rest of my packages are up to date
(except one that was just flagged a day ago and one that has a soname
bump). If you feel like updating some packages while I'm away, feel
free to do so.

I'll be in the tropics and most likely won't have any internet connection.

Enjoy yourselves while I'm away!

Cheers,
Ronald

Hi all,

I'll be in Sweden for a short family visit between tonight and Sunday

packaging stuff.

Grub is moved to [core], meaning that there are no critical bugs in my
packages left that can't wait until I return.

2010-02-26 Thread Andrea Scarpino
Hi DEVs and TUs,
my exams session is over, and I need a short holiday in London.
I will be away starting from some hours to 2nd afternoon/night (GMT).
I am building KDE 4.4.1 packages and everything seems fine. Before to go, I
will upload them into my staging/extra dir, so you can take them. This minor
release will be released 2nd March; I should come back in time to run
/arch/db-extra, anyway Ronald and Pierre are here for everything.
Free to fix high or medium priority bugs assigned to me or to update my
packages. Thanks.

Best Regards

Ocular problems are scary but they really make you appreciate vision.
Rest your eyes well. We'll be hoping for a quick and full recovery.
