Hi, I'd like the removal of two freshly uploaded packages. I've uploaded them without much testing (shame on me) and they now unnecessarily conflict. python-bidi: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/python-bidi/ python2-bidi: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/python2-bidi/ Thanks

[aur-general] Package deletion
Hi, My package rbspeex-git was deleted with no explination and no time to fix whatever errors may exist in the package. I was lead to believe that if errors were found in a package that the maintainer was to be given an alert of the problems and time to fix it. I know of at least 10 people who were asking for this package, and it's removal in such an unprofessional manner intrupts service for at least some of them. Just in case there are errors in the PKGBUILD, I'm attaching it for any advice on correcting it. I'm just kind of surprised that some of the people who review packages aren't familiar with proceedures, or just choose to ignore them. What steps should be taken to complain about a member who has gone about the process in the wrong way? Thanks Storm -- Powered by Arch Linux! Normally, there are URLs to the sources in the PKGBUILD and they get automatically downloaded when you run makepkg. The problem here is that the files aren't (legally) available in the internet, so makepkg can't get these files. It is not really a fancy solution, but there is no alternative and there is a note in the PKGBUILD that you need to get the files from TTD before creating the package, so normally there should be no problem, because (in my opinion) everybody should take a look at the PKGBUILD before installing a package. They regularly cause problems with the AUR helpers like yaourt, aurbuild, etc. And there are even more problems if other packages depend on a subpackage of these split packages on AUR, because neither pacman nor the AUR helper nor anything else can find those subpackages and resolve those dependencies. However, I do not believe that treating standard X, that system Y is applicable to, as part of Y's documentation package is elegant; instead, Y's documentation should merely reference X (as hier(7) does in the "CONFORMING TO" section). The reasoning is that system Z might also be applicable to X (inelegant, since there would exist a redundant copy of X), and more importantly, X is self-contained. That would mean that X should exist separately as a package, instead of being a component of Y-docs and Z-docs. I do not believe that this packaging infrastructure (pacman, official and unofficial repos, AUR) is well suited for offline content not pertaining to specific software, since the functionality is specifically targetted towards software packages. If my reasoning is sound, then a FHS package is outside the scope of this infrastructure. -Ruslan -- Ruslan Nabioullin rnabioul...@gmail.com signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
