Re: [aur-general] Merging request
yay snake! I have an unfinished one lying around on a... much more unpopular platform than pygame. meh, let's see if I can get my old buddy's java homework (which mostly I ended up doing) from him. Hmm, that reminds me, he reported heavy disk failures last time we communicated...
Re: [aur-general] Merging request
I have already deleted the package. Xyne, looks like you removed the incorrect one? snake_ remained, whereas snake_pygame should. -- Kind regards, Damian Nowak StratusHost www.AtlasHost.eu

I must have missed the --confirm option for snake_. It's gone now. Thanks!

Users who submit packages to the AUR are trying to contribute to the community. If they fail to do this well due to a lack of technical skills then you should offer advice and encourage them to improve their skills. The game itself [1] currently expects to be run directly in the user's home directory. The developer has not yet given any thought to proper packaging and it is therefore inappropriate to package this for Arch Linux. I will therefore delete the packages with a note to contact the developer to address this issue. Regards, Xyne [1] http://sourceforge.net/projects/snakepygame/

So please don't delete the package at this time, there's a chance to fix the sources to run properly from a system directory. Best regards Muflone I have already deleted the package. I have also sent an email to the author recommending the creation of a proper Python setup script for centralized installation along with the internal use of pyxdg (python-xdg) to manage user configuration and data files. As I told the maintainer/developer, I hope to see the package re-uploaded once these changes have been made. I am sure that you will get that 1 vote back and many more. Regards, Xyne

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, It's not an implementation problem, it's a usage problem. If you subscribe to notifications from the package you'd receive a notification. Good aur tools can always alert you if the package is no longer found. Ask their developers. The aur is not supposed to be used as just another repository (like how yaourt and Co pretend it is), more manual intervention is needed. After your comment, I decided to look in the yaourt help. I solved my problem by changing DETAILUPGRADE=1 to DETAILUPGRADE=2 in my /etc/yaourtrc file. Now yaourt is warning me when a package has been orphaned, flagged as out of date or not found. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi guys, Could elementary-icons-bzr be merged into elementary-icon-theme-bzr to be in sync with elementary-icon-theme from [community] ? Merged, thx. Let me join the discussion here, as I'm concerned by this merge. I've installed the elementary-icons-bzr package a few days ago from the AUR repository. After the merge to elementary-icon-theme-bzr occurred, with the current AUR implementation, the AUR helpers like yaourt cannot intercept a warning from the AUR stating that the package name has changed. It's a good thing I've subscribed to this mailing list and I'm reading all messages that transit via my mailbox. Without this subscription, I wouldn't have been aware of that name change and my package would remain installed and become outdated with time. Am I doing something wrong? How to prevent that to happen? Is there a tool to circumvent this AUR implementation problem?
