Hi John,

Yes, there will be Horsham Week 2010, from 6-13 February. I am away from home
for a couple of weeks but will post advertising info by mid-October.

Regards,

[Aus-soaring] Nimbus 4(M) for sale

2009-09-26 Thread C K
Whilst conducting serious research on the net (because that's what it is
there for right?) I stumbled across this page by chance.
This is one for those that haven't quite gone solo themselves yet, or for
those that simply like to have all the toys.

http://www.tun.ch/product_info.php?products_id=1165&osCsid=40ea5e63b95ca42cdd0e705489c67d24&osCsid=6881efc722e8ec9a3bc6e60ec49792b8
(it's in Swiss - written very similar to German, but with more of an accent)
:-)

There is a video link in the middle of the page, though it is 98Mb (not for
those on dial up).

It will give most of us south easterners something to do considering the
gloomy weather.

[Aus-soaring] Silicon free polishes?

2009-09-26 Thread Bernie Baer
Hello folks,
it's Form 2 time and we plan to give our LS1-f a bit of a buff and polish. A
product called NuFinish was recommended, however a quick Google search finds
that it contains silicon and I understand that this is not a good thing should
any future repairs be required. Is this correct, or is silicon getting a bad
rap?

Our club has used a Meguiars marine product called M4516 High Gloss Polish, I
am led to believe that this contains no silicon but have yet to confirm that.
See
http://www.meguiars.com.au/productdetail_2006.php?seq=9&category=SPECIALTY&subcat=Marine%20Care&subsubcat=Polish%20and%20Protect&show=3

Can anyone speak with authority on this subject? Any other products that I
should know about? The gel coat is in good condition, it was machine buffed
last year and shows little if any oxidisation to my untrained eye. I imagine a
quick polish followed by a wax would be sufficient, so the Meguiars marine
products are looking good:

Care&subsubcat=Polish

Thanks, Bernie.

Re: [Aus-soaring] Silicon free polishes?

2009-09-26 Thread Future Aviation
Hello Bernie

I use NUFINISH myself and provided you clean the area properly with a
product called PREPSOL there

is no problem at all with later Gelcoat or PU applications.

The cleaning needs to be very thorough and should be done repeatedly using
clean rags all the time.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards

Bernard

Re: [Aus-soaring] Silicon free polishes?

2009-09-26 Thread DMcD
I have not read a glider manual which advocated anything other than
keeping very well away from silicone polishes.

Why not use a proper silicone free product like Farola (?) and not
take the risk? There are a number of these polishes which can be got
from the more professional car parts and crash repairers which state
on the pack that they are silicone free. I'm not sure about the name,
but the packs are all yellow and there's a range from straight polish
to swirl remover and cutting polish.

I saw Andrew Maddocks polish a wing with some of this stuff, and it is
the only thing I would use on my glider.

Meguiars do make some silicone free polishes. You can normally read
the can and see if they advocate something like Paint-shop use but I
think it is really important to have something that states silicone
free. These Farola (or whatever the name is) products do state that.
