[Aus-soaring] Wine Pourings Day 4?

2013-06-11 Thread Adam Woolley
Good afternoon all,

Thankfully the CD made the wise decision to have a later briefing & then cancel
the day before too much of the day was wasted, this allowed everyone to really
sink their teeth into the day & perhaps see some of FIN like I and Enrique
Levin did - under the excellent guide of Aku Jaakola.

Before I get to that though, I want to say what a superb job the CD is doing.
Like in Kingaroy, we grid before briefing. Naturally it's the way it's done
here, everyday the grid order is found at the briefing office & they're only
doing random weighing. Task sheets have been intended to be out early (I'd like
to see them sent as an e-mail/txt at KSC MCN before briefing - this way people
can plan properly, tasks longer as a result of shorter briefings & time to get
to the glider), however there making it to the briefing table just before we
get there at 10am.

The weather briefings have been excellent, following a standard sequence & to
the point. The tasks have been set by the CD, to which have also been spot on
for each days racing. Top show!

Yesterday, I helped wash & polish Aku's trailer & car before checking out a
local castle at a nearby town. Later it was to a lovely pizza place for a late
lunch & onwards to home - chatting all the time about FAI gliding.

In FIN they're going through a period with slightly smaller class sizes, as
well as not being able to challenge some of their pilots in the weaker classes.
So they're approaching the time of a handicapped nationals in all classes -
like AUS. Handicaps, they wind everyone up unfortunately :(

Today there is two weather models, one fly able @ the one I'm looking at, not.
Time will tell when it comes briefing time & the inevitable grid squatting.

I'd like to introduce you to another of my sponsors, Wine Pourings.

Wine Pourings is your essential guide to learning more about wine, helping you
get more pleasure and enjoyment from your wine and importantly showing you how
to get better value for your wine dollar. They also provide wine consultancy,
wine tours tailored to you & the company you'll be in, as well as news & info
on events!

Check out their excellent service & website at: http://www.winepourings.com.au/

Hopefully I'll be bringing you all a flying report again very soon!

Cheers,
WPP

Re: [Aus-soaring] FW: Cambridge

2013-06-11 Thread Jim Staniforth
Sad.
My 302 was stuck at their "new address", which turned out to be a storage
unit, until it was forwarded to Cumulus Soaring for logger recalibration.

There's at least one company interested in picking up the CAI inventory and
doing repairs. No guarantees of that.

Although you'd think he's the obvious choice, Gary at ClearNav does not
presently have the time to work on CAI302s.

Are you all aware that Cambridge Aero has ceased trading?  They no longer
manufacture, repair or maintain the 302 series of flight recorders.   Below is
an e-mail from the CEO, Roger Routledge:

Dear Dealers and Friends of Cambridge,
I have spoken with many of you personally by telephone. Bad news travels fast.
So it is already widely known in our community that the volume of business of
Cambridge has for a considerable period of time been insufficient to sustain
operations. At the end of March the time finally came to relocate the assets
and vacate the space where we have conducted business for the last six years.
We ceased operating at Executive Center Drive on April 1, 2013.  Because of the
insufficiency of revenue from the business, we were forced to return all the
business assets to the company’s lien holder, Roy A. Ridgeway.  Our intention
was to continue with the business of repairs, calibrations, and sales of new
instruments on an as-needed basis, buying the parts to do so from Mr. Ridgeway.
We tried this for two months, but it did not work out. The company’s main
technician, Jeffery B. Bennett, has chosen to pursue other opportunities, and
under the present
circumstances the company could not recruit and train a replacement.
It is my sad duty to announce that Cambridge will no longer manufacture new
instruments, repair instruments, or maintain and calibrate instruments.  Mr.
Ridgeway is in possession of the company. Any inquiries regarding sales of
spare parts may be directed to his attention.  His contact information is as

[Aus-soaring] GFA's Day 4?

2013-06-11 Thread Adam Woolley
G'day race fans,

This morning I woke to 8/8 CU at 1,500', checked the forecast & thought - this
might be our first rest day. Still, keep in the routine that I mentioned
yesterday.

Teemu & I went via the comp office to check if they'll be grinding, the message
was - no grid, briefing non standard at 11am. So an easy morning was had
washing & polishing trailers before the inevitable day was cancelled.

We're now off to check out the neighboring city with a few, then hopefully do
some washing.

I'd like to personally thank the GFA & it's members for their sponsorship in
allowing me to compete at this Finnish Nationals & pre-worlds. I hope that
you're all enjoying the posts & the occasional picture. I look forward to
sharing my experience with others & especially the team who comes with me next
year!

Until tomorrow,

[Aus-soaring] 33rd Club & Sports Class Nationals - Waikerie

2013-06-11 Thread Grant Hudson
Hi all,

just a note to let you all know that entries are open for the 33rd Club &
Sports Class Nationals that are being hosted by the Waikerie Gliding Club in
South Australia. The event will run from the 2nd to the 11th January 2014
with an official practise day on the 1st January.

We have put together a strong operations team with Bill Mudge as CD, John
Hudson as Safety Officer, Alex Wallis providing weather briefing, Tim
Shirley mentoring both Craig Vinall and myself as the task setters and Tim
Bates providing his exceptional scoring services.

The competition website can be found here:
http://clubandsportsnationals2014waikerie.blogspot.com.au/

We haven't set an entry fee just yet but we are endeavouring to keep this as
low as possible due to the requirement to ferry tugs in for the event. A tug
levy will be imposed once operational requirements are determined. I will
keep entrants informed of these charges via the website and via email to
those that have entered.

Airfield constraints mean we are limiting entries to 60 aircraft total.

Any questions or queries can be directed to me granthuds...@gmail.com

On behalf of the Waikerie Gliding Club I look forward to welcoming you all
to a fun, challenging, safe but above all friendly 33rd Club & Sports Class
National Championships.

Best regards,

Grant.
