Re: [Aus-soaring] QLD trailer markings
If driving a combination the length of glider trailer car, there is a prescribed distance between you and the vehicle in front of quite some distance which all are not totally aware of. But as we all know we share the road with a lot of Numties who have to overtake any trailer if it is in front of them regardless of how fast or slow it is traveling; The sign gets people’s attention and that’s what it’s there for. Re: [Aus-soaring] QLD trailer markings
Correct re DNOTV but it sure is a great way to spread yourself across 2 lanes legally. Signs are money well spent and Ron corner stores well almost have the signs for sale these days. Re: [Aus-soaring] QLD trailer markings/outlandings
Stuart, That is some very pretty tail, as our Yankee cousins might say! However It seems from responses (on this forum) to you posting, that some of this is not really legal - in fact completely illegal! Pleased to hear that you fitted side clearance lights and reflectors. These items ARE now a legal requirement throughout Australia. In passing, please note that I heartly endorse these particular requirements. Apart from the obvious safety aspect, I can assure you that when you have outlanded in deepest woop-woop (which is somewhere just beyond the black stump), you cannot mistake the imminent arrival of YOUR car and trailer, as opposed to the false alarm generated by the passage of the only other two other vehicles (possibly a horse and cart, or more likely a tractor passing your way, in the 3/5/10 hours that have elapsed since you outlanded. Is that a rego label I see on the back just to the right of the number plate? If so It is highly likely that it is not in the correct position: front LHS is usual. Suggest that you review the current guidelines on this matter. Ron, the diagonal marking tape you want should be available from any 3M outlet: The trick is to get a metre or two, rather than a 50 or 100 metre/yard roll. Ring your local distributer and ask them who in the area has bought a roll or two, get their contact details, and then give them a call and ask if they will sell you a bit. Safety equipment outlets might be another possibility to try. Re: [Aus-soaring] QLD trailer markings/outlandings
Gary, the Rego Label is fitted as required in the ACT up until 30/06/13, this photo was taken prior to then. Since 01/07/13 we are not required to display Rego Labels and we are no longer issued with labels, our Traffic Branch vehicles and some general duty vehicles are fitted with scanners, a device they refer to as RAPID, that scan number plates and detect unregistered vehicles, stolen number plates, if the owner has unpaid fines etc they are stopped on the spot. This leads to an interesting question at comps and camps; how do I know your car and trailer are registered when I'm asked to retrieve you if I cant see the rego label because as the driver I would be charged with driving an unregistered vehicle.
