Yes, you are meant to pay it on aviation fuel. I wonder if there has ever
been a recorded case of that with mogas in aircraft? :-)

I'll go out on a limb and suggest that it's exactly the same number of recorded
cases of people claiming back the road tax component.

[Aus-soaring] Fuel Tax Credit

2013-12-19 Thread Pam
If your club isn't claiming Fuel Tax Credit on Mogas, your treasurer should
take a look at this link:

http://www.ato.gov.au/Business/Fuel-schemes/In-detail/Fuel-tax-credits---for
-GST-registered-businesses/Calculating-and-record-keeping/Fuel-tax-credit-ra
tes-and-eligible-fuels/

Work through the 'fuel tax credit eligibility tool' .

There is no FTC on Avgas.

So why not use Avgas 100LL?

http://www.rotaxservice.com/rotax_tips/rotax_feed4.htm

*Aviation Fuels*

It is possible but not recommended to use 100LL AVGAS, since the the
lead content is like cholesterol to your engine: it will accelerate wear
on the valve seats, create deposits in the combustion chamber and
sediments in the lubrication system and gearbox. Increased maintenance
is necessary to compensate. Unlike conventional aircraft engines, lead
is absolutely not essential to the proper lubrication and operation of a
Rotax 4-stroke aircraft engine. The increased octane rating also has no
marked advantage for the operation of your engine.

*To be avoided:*

 * Regular fuel except if used in the 912 A/F/UL and burned entirely
   on the day of purchase;
 * Premium fuel which is more than 3 weeks old
 * AVGAS except when the required automotive fuel is not available

[Aus-soaring] FAI World Championships events selected for full Breitling branding and support for 2014

2013-12-19 Thread Pam

Dear FAI News Readers,

The FAI and Breitling are pleased to announce the FAI World Championships
events selected for full Breitling branding and support for 2014.

This year the focus is on a smaller number of events and an increased
emphasis on supporting the events and creating a great image of these events
which will benefit the events themselves, the FAI and Breitling.

We are pleased to announce that events selected for 2014 are:

* The 5th FAI World Sailplane Grand Prix Gliding Championship
http://www.sgp.aero/ , to be held over the period 9 to 16 May in Sisteron,
France
* The 11th FAI World Advanced Aerobatic Championships
http://www.fai.org/events/events-calendar-and-results?id=34877amp;EventCal
endarId=8606 , to be held over the period 7 to 16 August in Dubnica nad
Vahom, Slovakia
* The 2nd FAI Junior World Hot Air Balloon Championship
http://www.fai.org/events/events-calendar-and-results?id=34877amp;EventCal
endarId=9035  + 58th Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett
http://www.fai.org/events/events-calendar-and-results?id=34877amp;EventCal
endarId=9036 , which will  be held over the period – 28 August – 6
September in Vichy, France

As an additional event we are planned to also have a Breitling branded
Aeromodelling event.

These selected events represent the core aviation interest of Breitling,
especially with the Ballooning and Aerobatic championships. The FAI
Sailplane Grand Prix and the Aeromodelling events also have particular
interest for Breitling with their emphasis on spectator involvement and
emphasis on precision and accuracy.

Kind regards,

Re: [Aus-soaring] Petition to remove ASIC

2013-12-19 Thread Paul Mander
Our CFI has sent a note to our club (BSC) membership recommending that no
one should sign the petition to remove the ASIC requirement.

Here is his advice: Be aware that sport aviation pilots do not have to hold
an ASIC card. Raising this issue with no research to show that the
Government is likely to listen may only put our exemption at

risk. So far as I know there is no intention on the behalf

of the Government to relax security restrictions - far from it as I
understand it.

AOPA does not support the air sport organisations or self-administration. I
do not understand why AOPA is acting on behalf of sport Aviation with out
our knowledge. I RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT GET INVOLVED UNTIL WE UNDERSTAND
WHAT IS GOING ON. If AOPA wants our support they know very well who to come
to.

Anyone know about this? I'll be taking it up with him, of course, and will
advise accordingly.

Subject: [Aus-soaring] Petition to remove ASIC

Ladies Gents,

The following is a link to a petition to abolish the ASIC card:

 http://tinyurl.com/removeASIC http://tinyurl.com/removeASIC

I contend that ASIC Cards are an unnecessary impost, particularly in the
light that a risk assessment (in my view) would determine a very low or
negligible effective deterrent against terrorist or subversive intentions; I
frankly resent the implication that we, who are properly identified during
training work hard to gain our qualifications, then are required to submit
to further ID checks with the dubious privilege of paying for same.

Please consider your support for the petition circulate to colleagues.

Thanks,

PeterS
