Re: [Aus-soaring] Electric replacement for quad bikes around airfields
Many years ago I saw one member of this list towing a Bocian to the launch point with a mountain bike, after his car had broken down :) Cheers Tim Tra dire e fare cè mezzo il mare -Original Message- From: aus-soaring-boun...@lists.internode.on.net [mailto:aus-soaring-boun...@lists.internode.on.net] On Behalf Of Simon Hackett Sent: Thursday, 7 March 2013 08:35 To: Discussion of issues relating to Soaring in Australia. It could have terry toweling canopy too. Large old beach towel would do the trick. -Original Message- From: Texler, Michael Sent: Tuesday, March 05, 2013 6:02 PM To: Discussion of issues relating to Soaring in Australia. Re: [Aus-soaring] Electric replacement for quad bikes around airfields
I'm sure I've seen electric-powered golf buggies being used on airfields somewhere. Great all-round visibility, some have a rear-facing seat for observation, canopy can be made of plexiglas or similar with UV film for sun protection, can be plugged in for re-charging as may be required. -- Nelson Handcock 0409 149919 http://www.linkedin.com/in/nelsonhandcockaustralia ___ Aus-soaring mailing list Aus-soaring@lists.internode.on.net To check or change subscription details, visit: http://lists.internode.on.net/mailman/listinfo/aus-soaring
Re: [Aus-soaring] Electric replacement for quad bikes around airfields
Hi Ian Writing in theoretical terms only, as I have no experience of an electric vehicle able to tow a glider. Damage to grass is a primary concern at Keepit except in years when we have extensive rain (about every 10 years). Damage to grass is directly related to the tyre pressures necessary to support the weight of the vehicle and rider. I have never heard anyone suggest that the weight of batteries + electric engine is less than the weight of an equivalent powered internal combustion engine. Please tell me if there is such a vehicle? Otherwise it is just an esoteric discussion with no particular purpose in mind.
