Re: [Aus-soaring] Microair 760

2013-08-31 Thread Ian Mc Phee
I hate the mic gain and modulation pots in microair as they are far too
sensitive and almost impossible to adjust. When all else fails I replace
these 240deg pots of with a 10turn pot and it is possible to set up a
microair. I hate Microair!!!

I also find 3/4 radio problems is aerial. Even a relatively new duo discus
was found to be way higher than 2to 1 A bit of foil tape on outside fin
near base of aerial improved it greatly. It is hard to tell people there
new $200k glider has a crop aerial. Ask John Press at Tamworth Airport
how bad the duo discus really was.

Thanks Gary and everyone.

My request was a last resort before sending it to Microair. I feel the problem
will be simple and yes I do have an array of test equipment at home.

I would certainly recommend Rodgers advice.

Repairs to these radio's should not be attempted by someone without
specialist test equipment and knowledge, just about every aspect of the
radio will be controlled by a microprocessor including the display contrast.

By the way, the last time I thought I had a faulty LCD display (fading in
and out) I had happened to put on an old pair of sunglasses which turned out
to be polarized. The liquid crystal display reflects polarized light in one
plane and the glasses blocked this light, with the effect that as soon as I
tilted my head the display would came back!!

[Aus-soaring] Microair 760

2013-08-26 Thread John Ashford
I'm looking for a service manual for Microair 760. Can anyone help me with
a copy or advise what might cause the display to fade intermittently?

John
