Personally, I'd be happy if gnits disappeared from automake completely,
except for being invisibly implemented as a synonym for `gnu'.  Does it
really serve a purpose any more?

Even those of us who were/are part of the actual gnits group no longer
use that option.

I did not mean to resurrect Gnits, or to even make a statement about its
state, only provide a pointer to the now-online document, to satisfy the
quoted report.  If the changes to the Automake manual are misleading in
this regard, then I'd be happy to improve them, suggestions appreciated.

I'm Cc:ing Karl to let him know about this anyway.
