recursive target?  e.g.:

RECURSIVE_TARGETS = remotecheck

which would shove remotecheck-recursive into the list with generated
targets all-recursive, check-recursive, install-recursive, etc. and add
a remotecheck & remotecheck-local in each Makefile.in?
