Wow, that's it! All I needed to do was "exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch
--sh-syntax --exit-with-session awesome".
Somehow I was under the impression that ck-launch-session was enough to
launch dbus. Apparently not.

Thanks a lot guys, it's working perfectly and exactly how I want it now.

Hello Satoshi,

Diep Pham Van is probably right, I suppose this may be somewhat
connected with gvfs.

The link below is about Gentoo, but you should be able to adapt it to Arch
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-858965.html

I do not have personal everyday experience with such configured system
(I use uam which is a simple automounter), but I have set up my
mother's computer using these instructions, and it works in a way you
expect it. Under LXDE and pcmanfm, every drive that is plugged in just
shows in the manager and you have an option to mount/umount it.

HTH,
Paweł

Honestly I've found that awesomewm produces pretty goods results, at least
with duckduckgo and Google.

Though I wonder if I get relevant search results because of
personalization. I have been around in the awesome community for
reasonably long.

You can always add things to the wiki if you find it lacking in any aspect :).

I have never been very happy about the name, including awful and
naughty. But because of the way full text search (and hence Google)
works, I don't think that adding a 'wm' to it is gonna make a huge
difference. Most of the time 'wm' (and 'window manager') is anyway
used in conjunction with 'awesome' in the same document.

You know, I'm of the hunch that this sort of thing has been discussed
before - as a new user, I agree with the sentiment of this thread, but I
don't want to bring up old topics (if this is indeed an old topic).

Hi Alexander,

While I understand your comment, I must say that there is a lot more out
there than your (a) & (b) and (no disrespect intended) the awesome wiki is
not so awesome :-(

I have spent MANY hours searching for other snippets of information and they
are what allowed me to get through the initial getting started barrier. I'm
sure that many people try Awesome but end up stumbling and move on - their
loss, but our loss as well as we lose some potentially good contributors!

Anyway - It was just throwing out my 2c to see what people thought

PS: I don't think that adding WM to the "official" name and not actually
changing the code would be a pretty reasonable idea.

David

Hello, David,

I understand what you are talking about. I also have a frustration googling
awesome. But the thing is there is no much data on awesome around the web
except:
a) awesome wiki
b) this mailgroup

So changing the name so the googling of a dozen of pages becomes easier
seems too radical to me. This issue was to be thought in the first place,
not after five years passed.

Regards,
Alexander
