RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Crystal Report

2005-02-09 Thread JI Markusse

Hi Harry,

One has to go through the steps you
described and know the data logic even if you write reports using the Axapta
report writer.  The Axpata report writer does not take care of the logic automatically
and it certainly does not generate a specification for a report, so the reasons
you mentioned do not hold trying to condemn third party report writer.  What is
important is the ease with which reports can be generated and the level of
complexity that can be dealt with without breaking the budget and as far as
that is concerned the Axapta report writer is, as you call it, “a massive
pain”…

Cheers

Hannes

Hi

Any report writer outside Axapta is a
massive pain.

One of my clients wanted to make a report that
will show the weighted average cost of an item (the one that appears on
invent-on-hand) against each invoice line. I ended up writing a four page
documentation to describe the Axapta process (four pages just to get the cost.
Things like currency conversion, unit conversion, virtual companies etc got a
one line mention).

Now the client will have to make sure that
the process still holds true after every service pack/ new version.

Data in Axapta is logic specific. If one
is not aware of the logic inside the application then using the data to
generate the reports is nothing short of disaster (on top of that there is lack
of any documentation in Axapta). In my opinion, external report writers should
only be used only for modules like CRM which is basically just data storage,
there is not any extensive data manipulation involved in CRM.

Regards

harry

Why do you think of Crystal Reports for Axapta?
