Re: [Ayatana] Unity launcher - will an autohide option be available?
OpenOffice is also unusable due to the launcher on the 7 inch original Eee. I agree with the auto-hide to save screen space, but having it reappear on proximity would be a pain - it shares space with most web pages navigation bar, so it would often get in the middle of browsing. A better option for a hidden bar is the one supported by Firefox Mobile (Fennec). The button bar is placed just outside the visible screen, and it is shown by dragging the screen to the right. This could be implemented in Unity with a finger gesture in multi-touch screens, or by dragging the panel in mouse or single-touch interfaces. But alas, the design of the Unity launcher seems to be based on an always visible bar. If this is true, it doesn't take the problem of 1024px-wide webpages into account. http://design.canonical.com/2010/06/introduction-to-unity-launcher/ ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ayatanahttps://launchpad.net/%7Eayatana Post to : ayatana@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ayatanahttps://launchpad.net/%7Eayatana More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp -- With palm to palm, Roshi Latitude, Longitude: 45.4288631, -75.6814395 sudo wakeup -rf ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ayatana Post to : ayatana@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ayatana More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I can't make a distinction between the two menus without getting very anal and that's not a good thing for users in general I believe, assuming I'm not very alone of course. That's why we only support left-click on the indicators. When in gnome-panel, the right-click is used to manage panel features, but in Unity there's no such capability, so it will feel cleaner. For what its worth: I've given out about a hundred shipit DVDs and many hundreds of self-burne. Never had a report of a problem with the shipits but about a ninth of the self-burned were bad. [Ayatana] Notifications Reversion
*Notifications Reversion* -- I've just dist upgraded my main production box to10.04. All is well except the notifications have reverted to the stylr from 8.04 or so. Instead of appearing top left and being without a border and so on they are appearing bottom right with an ugly yellow border. One thing though is that they display a timer and can be clicked off. It's not so much a problem as just weird. Does anyone have any ideas about how this happened or have a similar experience? At the moment, we do a half-hearted job - we ship what's there but as you say, only configure two workspaces. I'd be inclined to say ship without workspaces so that we are at least definitive about the position for the moment. I'd welcome a discussion about how we could make workspaces *great*. If we can do that, then we would make more of them. And your contribution above is a useful start: great workspaces give you easy access to some apps regardless of the workspace you happen to be in. Mark, I'm puzzled. What isn't already great about workspaces? I tend to use six to eight depending upon my uses on a particular machine with one assigned to internet, one running Terminator with htop and iotop, one for Nautilus, one for Gedit, one for music (GNOME-mplayer currently), one for OpenOffice, and sometimes a few more for the Gimp and a scratchpad space for quick work using something else. I use ALT+1 etc to jump between them. What are the problems you see with workspaces? What kind of improvements do you think are needed?
