[AZORES-Genealogy] Cemeteries of Stanislaus County

2009-05-10 Thread Family History

On FamilySearch.org there is a 33,000 + stash of books, family
histories, etc. I am just starting to look at it but came across
Cemeteries of Stanislaus County. This is the Newman area of California
along the I-5 Highway corridor which includes Los Banos, Crows
Landing, some people who may have lived going toward Watsonville and
San Jose. Anyway there are over 200 pages listing the people buried in
the Hills Ferry Cemetery from 1871 to 2007. It sometimes lists the
Island in the Azores the deceased is from. It should be available for
complete download, but I have not figured that out yet. Again, this
has been digitized by the local genealogical society of Modesto, and
put on line by the LDS Church. It seems that many if not most of the
listings are Portuguese.

So go to www.familysearch.org

At the top of the page on the left is a drop down menu, with Search
Records at the top. When it drops down, select Historical Books. When
the search screen comes up, copy this: Cemeteries of Stanislaus
Countyand paste in the title section for the book, then click on
search.

The book comes up, allowing you to select a range of letters of the
alphabet, and is a ledger with name, some birth dates, death date,
location of grave and a comments section that sometimes mentions the
place of birth or a family member name. You can search within the book
with the menu at the top of the book page, but I have not done much of
that yet.

I have found a family member here and hope that you may, too. Did not
fully search the rest of the database, no time as yet.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Manuel Baptist

2009-05-10 Thread Marek Delacroix
Cheryl,

My family stayed pretty much in Siskiyou county, CA.  I do know that a cousin (
Eva De Avila Brazil) of my grandmother (Minnie De Avila Brazil), and Eva's
husband Angelo Salvadori were dairy farmers in Sacramento.  Other than those
two we all stayed in Siskiyou county.

Do you have a Manuel Correia Brazil, born  1893, died 1955 in California.
Father was Frank Brazil and mother mary Clementino.
Manuel C. Brazil married my beloved grandmother, Amelia Nascimento and was from
near Calheta, Sao Jorge.

I do not have a birthdate for Manuel Baptist.  What I do know is that their
daughter Rosalina was 33 years old when she married my decendent Manuel Brazil,
so in 1897 Rosalina was 33 years old so she was born in 1864, if Rosalina was
born when Manuel was 30 years old then he would have been born in 1834, or if
he was 20 when she was born he would have been born in 1844...I just don't know
the exact date but I will work on it...Manuel Brazil is the brother of my great
grandfather Antonio De Avila Brazil.  The were from Calheta Sao Jorge and also
Piedade, Pico (lot of island hopping)

Yes, Marcio and I share Manuel De Valenca in our family tree.  I can tell you a
few things about Manuel Brazil, but it is Manuel Baptist that you are
interested in?  All I know is that my Manuel married the daughter of your
Manuel.

Calvena De Avila Brazil

I have a Manuel Baptist as a decendent, his wife was Perpetual and they had a
daughter named Rosalina.  They were from Santo Antão do Topo.  Rosalina married
Manuel De Avila Brasil (Brazil) a decendent of mine, on Jan. 11, 1897.  I don't
know if there is a connection, but for what its worth.
