Hi Iris,

I thought I remembered that you had made mention of being her
descendant in the past. I'm descended from Pero's brother, her son Nuno
Velho Cabral and Africa Anes...so, you're my earliest cousin that I
know of to date,(most of the others are less than 500 years ago).
However, I've been reading quite a bit about Dom Afonso lll since
learning he's my grandfather in eons pastI'm actually more intrigued
by his mistress, Madragana from whom we descendin one of the things
I read it stated that they have an estimated 5000 descendants so I guess
they'll be more cousins discovered at some point in time!

2010-06-04 Thread nancy jean baptiste

Hi Eliseu,

You're funny! ButI'm glad you're in the "club"!

This has been a great thread to discover lots of new cousins! The documents
sent by Celeste and others will be my Sunday reading to find the connections
and other tidbits of info within the documents.

Judi said something that made me start thinking...she said her family from
this line ended up in Relva, (Sao Miguel?).my ggrandmother's line was from
Vila do Porto, Santa Maria and I imagine lots of the "cousins" lines ended up
all over the Azores. Our ancestors did love to travel beyond the horizon in
search of better lives!

I'm keeping a list of all my new cousins.Eileen's note made me think about
joining the group and being a "newbie" 5 or so years ago..I had 4 known
cousins to my name! Now through the group I have more than I ever could have
imagined and they live all over the world and we descend from so many different
ancestors and some of these new cousins are double related to me from ancestors
on more than one island! I find it all quite remarkableI do feel blessed to
have my "family ties" so greatly enlarged through the group. The knowledge of
my roots has been very important to me and never would have happened without so
many of you!

Best regards,

Nancy Jean

Beverley,

Here is the shiplist with your grandmother arriving.

It's the Penninsular arriving 4 Sep 1900 in New York. It sailed from Flores.
She is on line 17 as Diolinda Pedro Goncalves, on her way to Oakland to meet
sister Catherine Goncalves

Also attached is an obit from 1946 for Katherine Yore. I beleive this is the
sister. She can be found in Oakland on the 1920 and 1930 censuses.

Looking for information on my g ggrandfather and his brother. He and his
brother immigrated to the US in the 1870's-1880's as a pre teen and his
brother
a teen as the story has been told. They came through Portsmouth, NH. My g
grandfather was then adopted by a Bartlett family in NH and later moved on
to the Boston area. Much is known about him from there on. But little mention
of his past. We know his brother moved on very soon after arrival to Merced
CA. They used an anglicized name something like Gerrivas, Gerevas. or possibly
Gervasio. We know a sister joined the Uncle later on in the 1880's, but
she went directly to Merced. I am trying to find the family name and the
Azorean island of they're origin. Some had mentioned in the ancestry notes that
it most likely was a western island of Sao Jorge, Pico, Faial, or Flores, since
they supposedly arrived on a whaling vessel. Anyway a trip to the Azores is on
my
"bucket list" but I would like to have a little more info before I go.

Thanks,

They are my 18th great-grandparents and my maternal grandmother who descended
from them was born in Porto Judeu, Terceira.

Has anyone kept track of all the "Cabral/Travassos Country Club members?"  I
wonder if it rivals the "Ponta Garca Gang."

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] looking for information on my g ggrandfather

2010-06-04 Thread eric edgar
Beverly,

I've been looking around for information on the sisters you mentioned in
earlier posts. You said all six came to California.

Do you have any more information on them that could place them in
Califronia. If we could get a death certificate, it might name a town.
