[AZORES-Genealogy] Possible solution to CCA problems

2012-12-22 Thread Richard Francis Pimentel
Hi All,

I was on the CCA site last night and got to the point where all I could get
was the infamous error message. This morning I went back on and it was still
there except for files I had previously looked at. It then dawned on me that
possibly the problem had something to do with my temporary internet files in
internet explorer. Using my Norton security suite I cleaned up and deleted
the files (I had over 15000) I then went back to the CCA site and now it is
working fine. So what I am saying is that the problem could be in your
browser and not at CCA.

More on MyHeritage--

I use my iPad a lot on the CCA site (viewing the records) and Ancestry.
Ancestry has an app that allows editing your tree and looking at and choosing
Ancestry hints. I also have an app for Reunion, the program I use on my Mac.

MyHeritage has an iPad app...and if you read the reviews in the App Store, it's
not that great (even the celebrity photo matching feature LOL). You can't
edit your family tree using the app. So it's useful for toting your tree for
all to see, but not for research away from your computer. I think people
mentioned that you also had to pay for add-on features for the free app.

At this point I think they are courting the younger folks who are just getting
into researching their roots. Hook them and then entice them to buy the extras.

I am not writing this as some kind of expert. My research skills are fragmented
to say the least. But I appreciate things that make my search easier.

Really appreciate comments from Mary and Cheri. That is what I love about this

you would think I could find some one to share with besides you all. Next

At first glance it seemed like My Heritage did have a lot of non American trees
(I haven't checked out their documents yet). I see (after looking around) that
they started in Israel and now have a US location in Provo, Utah. So they may
have more European users than Ancestry since they didn't start in the US.

If so, I can why it would be a good match with FTDNA. And why it may be of
greater use to those of Azorean descent. We shall see, as my mom always says.

I really need to explore more!  :)

[AZORES-Genealogy] Historian(s)/Database

2012-12-22 Thread Paul
For the past few months I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to locate my
great grandparents passport information and one of my granduncles baptism
record on the CCA site. Just wondering if someone knows of an
Azores historian that could answer a few questions about emigrating in the
early 20th century? Also, is there another database besides the CCA where
you can find BMD records for Sao Miguel? For some reason tonight the CCA
site keeps giving me a 500 - Internal Server Error whenever I click on a
page. The prevous two nights I had no problems.

"Antonio Silveira Revoredo - didn´t find his obit probably due to a record gap between 1729/1737...

As for the surname, I think  REVOREDO  is the best choice. I have found many

but existent!  More, I did a lot of search at the Urzelina records and found other
persons (not many) with that surname.

I did also some more search (I had the time and need the fun!)  and found other events, which I
think you already have, but I will list them anyway:

Antonio Pereira (also Teixeira) Simoes  deceased   Feb 18, 1728 .
Maria Teixeira  deceased  Nov 24, 1721.

Antonio Silveira Revoredo  - didn´t  find his obit probably due to a record gap between 1729/1737...
Maria Machado  deceased  Feb 5th,  1721

Manoel Pereira Simões - didn´t look for his obit (probably from 1737 on).
Maria Silveira Machado - deceased  Nov 15, 1737.

Found baptism of Catharina  , daughter of Manoel Pereira Simoes Maria Silveira Machado
in  Sep 10, 1716. Didn´t look for other children...

This is it! Have luck.

families seemed to have been so close that they even synchronised their
 deaths, births and marriages.

 Many thanks

 Hi Diane,

I took some time and have something to tell. Hope you like it.

As for the surname, I think REVOREDO is the best choice. I have found
 many
Revoredos hear in Brazil just searching this surname at Google. Not very
 common,
but existent! More, I did a lot of search at the Urzelina records and
 found other
persons (not many) with that surname.

I did also some more search (I had the time and need the fun!) and found
 other events, which I
think you already have, but I will list them anyway:

Antonio Pereira (also Teixeira) Simoes deceased Feb 18, 1728 .
Maria Teixeira deceased Nov 24, 1721.

Antonio Silveira Revoredo - didn´t find his obit probably due to a
 record gap between 1729/1737...
Maria Machado deceased Feb 5th, 1721

Manoel Pereira Simões - didn´t look for his obit (probably from 1737
 on).
Maria Silveira Machado - deceased Nov 15, 1737.

Found baptism of Catharina , daughter of Manoel Pereira Simoes Maria
 Silveira Machado
in Sep 10, 1716. Didn´t look for other children...

 This is it! Have luck.

Thank you for that suggestion. it does look like Reveredo but I hadn't
 come across that name before.

Also do you think that the names Perieria and Teixeira could have been
mixed up in the record as I have suggested below I would appreciate
any advice on this. There is no other possibility in the timeframe in
Uzelina where they all seemed to come from.

This record shows the marriage of Manuel Pereira Simoes and Maria
Silveira Machado. I am looking for Manuel *Texeira* Simoes and Maria
 Silveria.

The reason I think this is the only possible one is that the names of
Texeira, Silveira and Machado appear in their parents names and I wonder if
the priest may have mixed them up. Does this sometimes happen.?? It is
most likely the right people because my folks' first child was born about
 10 months after this marriage.

Also can anyone please help with the translation of the bride's
 father's surname on line 11.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Historian(s)/Database

Paul G,

What questions do you have about emigrating from the Azores in the early
20th century? Most people left to have a better life.

If you are looking for an online database, no, only the CCA has an online
database that is still a work in progress.
