They had two daughters - Mary born ca 1883 (no further information yet); and Rose born ca 1885 (per 1910 census) but per cemetery records she was born October 12, 1888 and died January 15, 1941 (she was married Joe Abreu (1897-1987); Joe and Rose are listed in 1940 census of Alameda County, CA and both Rose and Joe are also buried in Saint Francis Cemetery. I will have 3 hours so I believe I will have time to do a little US research helps and then reading the Portuguese records. Greg found a record for his maternal grandfather's and knows that they were from Urselina - Sao Jorge? I don't know if there is another Urselina on the islands. That would be the Maria A. Soares (Sears) family line. *Maggie, I would bet that Greg's family hails from Fajazinha Flores. My 2G grandfather was Jose de Freitas da Caldeira who was from Fajazinha, Flores. Caldeira is a part of Fajazinha which is just over the hill from downtown Fajazinha toward Mosteiro. Caldeira is an alcunha (nickname) that in my family case refers to an area where the particular person either resided or possibly owned property. In my case, I have been to that paticular area with my late maternal side uncle Jose Freitas who pointed out to me the parcel of land in Caldeira that our family once owned. I would bet that Greg and i are cousins. Have him contact me. My gg-grandfather was Jose de Souza who married Maria Ignacio, my g-grandfather had several names so I don't know which is correct, it was either Quitao, Caetano, and his buried name Keaton de Souza who married Maria Fereira. He does know this: Joseph Caldeira, born 1914 in Ingomar, California - was born to Joseph Freitas ( Joseph Freitas Caldeira ) who died in 1921 in California and Maria A. Soares (Sears). They had one older child bornin 1910. They (Joseph and Maria) were probably married in the San Francisco/Contra Costa area between 1904 - 1910. Any help in finding the island that they came from would be appreciated. Geneva, All these names are very common in most places. Without breaking them down and name of place where marriage or birth may have taken place it's not possible to get started. For example: Manuel Cabeceiras who did he marry? Where did the marriage take place? Where was he born...does he have children?, what are his children's name (s), birth place, etc. For example; my 8th ggrandfather's name was Manuel Cabeceiras, he married Joana Cabral (my 8th ggm) in Sao Jose, Ponta Delgada. They had a daughter Maria Cabral or Cabeceiras (my 7th ggm) married to Andre Gonçalves (my 7th ggf) on June 30, 1697 and one of their children as Margarida de Sousa (my 6th ggm), and so on. I also have Ana Francisca Pires married to Manuel da Costa Jan 3 1734 in Sao Jose...they are also my 8th ggparents.
