[AZORES-Genealogy] Results from mtDNA
My results arrived and it was confirmed that I'm a J1C1B1, unfortunately, no matches found. Sooo frustrating not finding a single one at FamilyTreeDna. On the other hand, I was just able to confirm that I'm an Ashkenazim descendant, which I was reading a lot about since I knew I was a J1, previously. I will keep researching and looking for someone to pop up with results similar to mine.! Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Results from mtDNA
Hi Isabella, Very odd that you don't have a single mtDNA match (even at HyperVariable Region 1). You must have a couple of differences (mutations) that set you apart from the others in your mtDNA. Remember though, mtDNA testing focuses solely on one line only - your mother's mother's mother's line. You may want to read the following article on the mtDNA Haplgroup J. It is not the same as the Y-DNA haplogroup J. There are only 26 letters in the alphabet and the geneticists used the same alphabet for both Y-DNA as mtDNA. http://goo.gl/ZZwuFl mtDNA haplogroup J is something like 12% of European females. It's not necessarily Jewish. The population geneticists haven't been as successful in pinpointing the Jewish mtDNA, as it seems that the Jewish men may have taken various women in past history. Some research is coming out suggesting haplogroup K. http://goo.gl/3ZnlzO Dr. Doran Behar, mentioned as one of the population geneticists, is on the advisory board at FTDNA. He has spoken at some of the FTDNA Administrator Conferences in Houston, TX. Hope you find the above articles of interest.
