Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] 15 Seniors Free 1 week trip to mainland Portugal if you have not been there in past 20 years

2013-09-10 Thread João Ventura
Hi all,

From what I read, you must be a Portuguese citizen, over 65 that hasn't
visited Portugal in over 20 years. Plus you must prove that you require
this assistance because your financial situation doesn't allow you to pay
for this trip on your own.

Unfortunately for me, I cannot apply as I have been there quite a few
times in the past years but hope some other listmember(s) 65+ can be one of
 the lucky 15.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Relative Search: Victoria, DeBragga, Escobar, Contente

2013-09-10 Thread Deb
Sara,
I have some info on Anna Silva deBragga, although it is not verifiedI
have received some DeBragga family notes over the years , but never
confirmed any of this.

Annie DeBraga born 2/3/1880 in Freguisia de Santo Espirito, Santa Maria,
arrived in US 1892, died 11/15/1951 in Stonington CT
Siblings: Antone deBraga, Joseph J deBragga, John DeBraga, Alfred DeBragga,
Agnes deBraga, Frank deBraga, Mary deBragga Cadeda
Parents Joachim I de Braga born Freguisia de Santo Espirito, Santa Maria
3/28/1854, died 1/15/1928 in Stonington Ct , and
Maria Umbelina Cabral Calvade, born 1860, her Father Bernard Cabral.
Joachim's parents Jose J de Braga and Maria Jacinta de Chaves
I have seen them on the Stonington census 1920 and 1940. Also look at the
LDS Family center, I believe there is a family genealogy for Joachim on
microfilm. I also think most of them are buried in St Mary's cemetery on
Rte 1. Their death records should be in Stonington, and marriage records at
St Mary's church in the borough.
Good luck
Deb DeBragga

[AZORES-Genealogy] Island of S. Miguel - S. Jose, Ponta Delgada - Manuel de Paiva - Fall River, MA 1902

2013-09-10 Thread Margaret Vicente
Hi all,

Facing a problem with a relative who left S. Miguel to Fall River via de SS
Canopic in 1902. Her name was Ermelinda de Jesus daughter of Jacinto de
Sousa and Maria de Jesus. She was going to her son Manuel de Paiva who was
living at 40 Almond Street at the time.

Problem, her husband's name was Joao da Costa and I'm looking to make the
connection to the Paiva family but have been unsuccessful in finding the
correct Manuel and hoping someone may have him. He's also connected to
Joaquim Simoes de Castro but again, Joaquim's passport place of origin and
parents were left blank for some reason. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thank you,

2013-09-10 Thread fialho

Many thanks for the information, George.  I gather from some later postings
that you have not been well lately.  I hope you are doing better.  I should
note that I heard from Joao Ventura who gave me information about the Univ of
Minho work summarizing the church records and have found a great deal of
information from the entries for Cedros and Salao.  The last entry relevant to
my family is a 1712 marriage record in  Cedros for Joao Fialho and Anna
Furtado.  Now if I can just make the jump to Pico for the birth/baptism of
Joao.
